Why should I be excited to go to church on Sundays?

Do I have to go to church on Sundays? Can we not worship God at home and not need to mingle with others?

Regardless of where you are in your walk with Jesus, one of our struggles is getting up from bed early and going to church.

Moreover, there could be many reasons why sometimes going to church on Sundays does not excite us anymore.

If you have been a long-time Christian, it could be because going to church becomes a mundane routine for you, and you feel like nothing is new.

Also, some people think the church is a place for great pretenders who try to become holy on Sundays but sinners on the rest of the days.

More so, some Christians have experienced “church pain,” so they do not anticipate attending church.

Additionally, some may not have issues with their church pastor or members but are very busy on the weekdays, and you want to spend your Sundays with your friends or family.

Thus, regardless of our reason, we must be aware that satan is using those factors to hinder us from the beautiful fellowship God intended for His people. We should never allow the devil to stop us from learning more about Jesus through attending church.

Why should I be excited to go to church on Sundays

We must understand that attending church is not about being rewarded for complete attendance.

It is about dwelling in the presence of the Lord with other believers.

More importantly, we must know that the church is not a place to go to but rather a living body where God wants you to become a part of your good and His glory.

Here are some reasons why we should be excited to attend church on Sundays.

Obedience to God

We cannot say we love the Lord but do not like attending church on Sundays. One of God’s commandments is to remember the Sabbath Day.

Exodus 20:8-11 remind us that we should keep it holy.

In addition, God said we must work for six days, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord.

We shall not work and rest in God’s presence as He rested on the seventh day He created the world.

When we go to church, we obey God by keeping it holy with our fellow believers.

Attending church may not always be exciting, but remember that God is pleased with those who follow, even if they do not like it.

Learn and grow

Though there are many ways of learning the Bible because of the advancement of technology, it still feels different when you hear God’s teaching firsthand.

They may also watch preaching online and still can learn, yet, one can only experience the help and hope Christ offers by living in close fellowship with real people.

Besides, some believers get bored with the pastor’s sermon, yet they do not realize that it is the main course of the Sunday Service.

It is where God speaks through His servants and tells us what we need to change in ourselves.

Through preaching, we can become mature and better understand who God is. We should be excited about understanding God deeply and how He expresses His love toward us.

Furthermore, we should look forward to becoming more like Jesus to enjoy His goodness. We could also know how to handle our marriage, home, and struggles.

Enjoy worship

Listening to music and singing with my favorite Christian singers like Don Moen feels good.

However, it feels different when you are with God’s people singing together and lifting God’s name.

We might have struggled with others we know are doing something wrong, but our focus should not be on them.

Another, we all need healing and salvation from God. We should fix our eyes on Jesus, who is perfect.

In addition, we can never experience God’s spirit during our corporate worship if we think of the imperfections of those attending the church.

God’s word says that all have fallen short of His glory (Romans 3:23). Therefore, we are all sinners and need God’s grace and love.

Encouraged and empowered

When we attend church, the music, the people, and the preaching can encourage us amidst our challenges in life.

It is where you would realize that you do not have to walk or fight your battles alone.

Some people are willing to support and guide you as you walk in the righteousness and abundance of God. Every Sunday is different from the other.

The more consistent you are in attending the church, you will feel stronger and more peaceful.

Besides, though people carry different burdens in the church, you would still see how great God is in their lives, and He could also do that to you.

Remember that pastors and other servants in the church are called to help and motivate you. Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

Utilize and maximize your gifts

Some people never imagined being good at something until they attended church. Meanwhile, others who already know their gifts feel more fulfilled when they can use them for God’s glory.

Thus, the more we use our gifts to serve and give glory to God, the more He will provide us. We have different skills, and God would use our uniqueness to play a particular part in His ministry.

Apostle Paul noted that Jesus Christ is our head, and we are His body. We have different roles, each designated according to their gifts and talents.

Ephesians 4:16 says, “From him, the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.”

To have godly mentors

A mentor who profoundly understands God is vital for our journey and battles. We are not all-knowing.

Attending church will help you find people who have walked the journey ahead of you.

Titus 2 talks about God’s plan for elders to walk alongside the younger ones to train them in godliness and lead them toward building a life of no regrets.

Also, some people, such as your pastors and leaders, will listen to your struggles without condemning you.

For instance, young professionals are confused about whether living with their partners without sleeping together is okay.

Moreover, the church is the perfect place to seek guidance as we face all stages of life, such as marriage or parenting. Also, God will use mentors to empower you.

Belongingness

Nothing feels better when you go to where you know you belong. The church is a loving community of believers for you.

You should be excited to meet them and have fellowship with them regardless of any issues you may have in the past.

Satan wants you to believe you do not belong and that no one would accept you in Christ’s community. God wants you to know that you can feel His presence more with His people.

Thus, we all want to feel validated, whether we admit it or not. Still, when everyone in the community continues to seek the Lord, we will learn to appreciate others despite imperfections.
