11 tips on how to combat exhaustion.

Good day beautiful people,

I hope that everyone is doing well, and remaining hopeful in the midst of difficulty? I am very aware that the pandemic has caused damaging effects on the economy, and has wrecked havoc upon people’s livelihood. I’ve also noticed a dramatic increase in the amount of people who are burnt out, stressed, frustrated, and low, especially within the NHS (national health service). Which is why I believe that it is vital for us to take active steps in removing obstacles which contribute towards exhaustion. In today’s post I will be sharing some tips on how we can minimise the intensity of exhaustion in our everyday lives.

1. Ask for help: (two are better than one) Formulate the habit of casting your burdens before The Lord. We will ALL need help at some point in our lives, and we have to accept this fact. You will be able to accomplish more by working with the right people, than you will when working alone and stressed. Learn to DELEGATE.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 ~ “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.”

2. Don’t turn down help: Don’t feel embarrassed, ashamed, or feel that you’re weak for accepting the help which you need. No human being is entirely independent, we all depend on other individuals wether it be directly or indirectly, dependence is dependence. One thing we must realise is that God created us for relationship, it’s not good to live in isolation, and it’s not good for one to handle trails in isolation.

3. Don’t be afraid to say no: Don’t take on more than you can manage, even if it means losing out on a bit of money. Your health is your wealth. Don’t overwork to the point where you can’t even enjoy the fruit of your labour.

Ecclesiastes 4:8 ~ This is the case of a man who is all alone, without a child or a brother, yet who works hard to gain as much wealth as he can. But then he asks himself, “Who am I working for? Why am I giving up so much pleasure now?” It is all so meaningless and depressing.

^^^ Surround yourself with others, don’t overwork and enjoy the fruit of your work.

4. Don’t isolate yourself: The devil loves to make us feel like we’re alone, but God will never abandon us. He will place people around us to uplift us. We are not to forsake the gathering of God’s children, as when we surround ourselves with others, especially true believers, they’ll be able to strengthen us.

Proverbs 27:17 ~ Just as iron sharpens iron, friends sharpen the minds of each other.

Hebrews 10:25 ~ “And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”

5. Pursue work life balance: This is one of the hardest things to do in life, yet one of the most important habits one needs to put into practice. Sometimes we take on too much, therefore it is pivotal that we learn how to prioritise our work in order of importance. This may mean putting a task on hold for an extended period of time. One thing I’d strongly advise for an individual to do, is to never place their workload above their own health and family, as this can lead to a rapid decline in ones mental well-being. If you need to get a dairy to organise yourself, get one ASAP (small changes can make big differences).

6. Actively make time for fun and enjoy rest: Have fun, this life on earth is very brief and is meant to be enjoyed. Having fun is good for your overall well-being and can help lift your mood. If you work in an intense job, try to ensure that you monitor your schedule so that you do not end up working multiple days or even weeks in a row. Aim to have at least ONE DAY off in the week if you can. God understands our need for rest which is why He created the Sabbath.

Ecclesiastes 5:18 ~ Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life.

7. Get enough sleep: I speak to myself when I say this, sleep is VERY VERY IMPORTANT!!! Your body needs time to heal and reciprocate. Our cells have the opportunity to repair themselves when we sleep. Also the brain stores new information and gets rid of toxic waste. I used to wonder why I was always tired and realised when speaking to others I wasn’t giving my body enough sleep. Many a times I’d sleep for less than 6 hours, whilst some of my colleagues were getting a good 8 hours in. Don’t deprive or harm yourself by denying your body of the sleep it needs.

8. Eat well: I don’t know about you, but when I eat rubbish, it shows on my face and my waistline (acne and weight gain). When I give my body junk food to fuel on, it really does struggle to function. Help yourself by ensuring that you give your body what it needs wether it be through drinking more water, eating more vegetables or taking supplements/vitamins (Please contact your doctor concerning what vitamins you should take).

9. Seek professional help if needs be: Don’t ignore a problem by pretending it doesn’t exist (this will not make the problem disappear). If you need mental or physical support don’t hesitate to see a physician. Also if you have severely low energy levels consider speaking to a doctor as it ‘could’ be a sign of anaemia. There are also several organisations which provide mentoring or peer support for those in need within the local community.

10. Don’t compare yourself with others: Comparison is a joy killer, it has the power to further drain a persons energy levels. For example it should not discourage you if your friend is able to work full time throughout the majority of her pregnancy, and you cannot. Everybody’s circumstances are different, and God created humans uniquely, therefore our genetic makeup varies too.

Galatians 6:4 ~ Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.

^^^ Focusing on your own God given tasks will help satisfy your soul. It’ll help you remain focused by eliminating the distraction of comparison, which can cause stress and lead to burnout.

11. Take time out to pray: Prayer is the fuel which the human soul needs in order to flourish. Stay in constant communication with God, cast your burdens onto Him because He cares for you. He knows you better than you know yourself, and can provide you with the wisdom which you need to live a life that is not weighed down by exhaustion. Take EVERYTHING to Him in prayer including any stressors within your life (an unfair manager, a broken family bond, a financial strain etc). When you verbalise your concerns it can bring about a sense of comfort (provides one with the opportunity to release pent-up feelings), and we know that the God we serve is a God of all comfort, He has the power to give us a peace which surpasses all human understanding.

Isaiah 40:29-31 ~ “He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”

2 Corinthians 1:3 ~ All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.

I pray that you all have a blessed and productive week, continue to stay safe.

God bless.
