6 Excuses that can kill your dreams

Do you also have a lot of excuses for not accomplishing your job?

Excuses are about looking for someone or something to blame for our actions. This is our explanation to justify what we know but choose to ignore.

For example, “I’m not born with a silver spoon,” “I am not a morning person,” “I am not God to be perfect,” etc.

Such hindrances can kill your dreams, whether they are your Christian life or career goals. Most people with many excuses do not make any progress at all.

Making excuses means we do not have plans to change since we have accepted who and what we are.

Common excuses that can kill your dreams

You may not realize that your simple excuse of not getting up early or not going to church on Sundays could significantly impact why you do not grow as Christ's follower and as a person.

Here are some common excuses that could kill your dreams.

“I am not good enough.”

How often have you told yourself you are not good enough to do things or achieve something?

People who always say this to themselves tend to get stuck where they are. This excuse will lead you to lose self-esteem and give you more reason to give up on your dreams.

If you thought “you are not good enough," everybody is. No one is ever good enough, even by the standards of God. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

However, those who persevered despite their weaknesses could gain favor with God and achieve their dreams in life.

They become good and faithful servants of God through their effort and mindset.

Indeed, we are not good enough, but it should not stop there. We should do something to be good at what we want to become.

Moreover, remember who created you because God made everything good, including you. God made you fearfully and wonderfully. He has given you so many capabilities to discover and believe in.

“I do not have enough time.”

Charles Buxto said, “We will never find time for anything; if we want time, we must make it.”

Most people give up on their goals because they do not have time. For instance, you want to exercise to lose weight, but you cannot start it since you believe that you do not have time.

Also, you want to loosen up as parents but do not have time to take a break.  Thus, you end up tired and stressed with all the responsibilities on your shoulders.

As they say, there is a way if there is a will. A person determined to achieve something will always find time to reach it.

Another example is that we use time as an excuse not to spend time with God or attend Sunday church services. Some say their time is insufficient to add these habits to their system.

Nevertheless, if we derived our attention from not having time to make time to achieve what we want, we could start the first step of our journey to success.

“It is too late to start.”

As long as you breathe and God has given you another day to live, it is never too late to start.

Some people think they are too old to serve the church, start a business, travel, etc. Those who believe in this excuse tend to regret never starting what they wanted to do or achieve.

Believing that “it’s too late” steals your creative energy and prevents you from improving.

One of the sermons I have listened to says that the place of regret is in the cemetery. Most of them died without achieving their desires because of this excuse.

Furthermore, it is a poisonous idea that leaves no room for transformation or questioning.

If we wanted to change our situation and reach the dreams we have, it is vital to stop telling ourselves that it is too late. It is a limiting statement that locks you in a box.

“I do not know, or I did not finish my education.”

Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Joel Osteen, Tiger Woods, etc. Are you familiar with them? These are successful people in their field who didn't finish their education.

They knew nothing initially, but that excuse did not stop them.

Moreover, Peter was a fisherman and had not received high education or training, yet He could achieve God’s purpose for his life.

When Jesus chose His disciples, He did not choose them because they already knew how to preach and build the church or their educational attainment.

However, they would not be great followers if they had made an excuse to Jesus that they didn’t know or were not educated to become His disciples.

It is okay that you do not know and are not lucky enough to attend school. What is not okay is making it an excuse not to thrive in achieving your dreams.

“I am poor and do not have enough money.”

As they say, it is not your fault if you were born poor, but you are to blame if you die poor.

Not everyone is born with a silver spoon, which is a given. Yet, we can do something to change our future.

However, some people have used this as an excuse for not trying to find ways to improve their situations.

If we believed in this excuse of not having enough money or being poor, we can never learn new ways to get rich or have a good life.

Some people think bigger dreams are only for wealthy people, so they stop trying. For instance, some people are not open to making investments because their excuse is not having enough money.

Still, it will all boil down to your will to change your circumstances. Not having money is not an excuse; many people work hard and struggle to have two or more part-time jobs just to have a better life.

Moreover, some people use this excuse of being poor and not having enough money to save a percentage of their income or even give ten percent of their tithes to God.

The more you use this excuse, the more it hinders you from experiencing God’s blessings and providence.

“I am afraid to fail.”

Fear of failure is one of the greatest hindrances to achieving our dreams. Many of us use this excuse to give up or not try.

Although making a change and beginning the steps toward our goals is risky, we should not take failure negatively.

Successful people fail, but this excuse does not stop them from being where they are now. Thus, fear will always prevent us from becoming who we want to be or fulfilling God’s purpose.

Additionally, a millionaire mindset uses failure as an opportunity, but a poor attitude uses failure as an excuse to stop.

Failures are opportunities to see what you can improve to achieve your goals.

You are who you say you are

If you kept making excuses, you will become who you believe you are. These excuses are all pitfalls that will stop you from being who you desire and who God plans you to be.

Instead of believing these excuses, try to feel the opposite and see the good in everything. Use your weaknesses as your ladder to go to the top and reach your dreams.

Thus, removing these mindsets will help you reach your desired destination and also help you become the best version of yourself.
