A Call To Worship, Let All The Earth Rejoice

Psalm 148 invites every voice in heaven and on earth to unite in one chorus of exaltation. This call commands the sun, moon, stars, mountains, animals, and people to worship the Lord.

The Psalmist reminds us that worship stretches beyond words; it reflects the alignment of all creation with God’s glory. When reading Psalm 148, you’ll find it pulses with life and urgency.

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens! And praise him from the skies! Praise him, all his angels! Praise him, all the armies of heaven! Let’s praise him, sun and moon! Praise him, all you twinkling stars! Psalm 148:1–3

This devotion will explore why creation praises God and why worship matters for believers. Plus, how we can join the universal song of praise by answering the call to worship God.

The Psalmist began by directing the heavens to lift the first note of praise. Based in the skies, the angels and the armies of heaven lead the way in declaring God’s majesty.

The sun and moon testify of His faithfulness, while the stars shine as evidence of His brilliance.

The heavens remind us of God’s transcendence as He reigns above everything we know.

    Psalms of Thanks

Angels gladly answer the call to worship Him without pause because they behold His glory without obstruction. This heavenly praise challenges us to lift our views above the noise of life.

When storms rage or distractions crowd our hearts, heaven’s song continues. If angels and stars worship Him, shouldn’t we also answer that call? Creation always acknowledges its Creator.

The sun rises and sets at His command. The stars hold their positions because His word sustains them. Likewise, we must anchor our hearts in His sovereignty, even when life feels unstable.

Do you Call Out to God Daily in Worship?

Do you begin your day with praise like the heavens do? Or do I start with complaints, worries, and distractions? Let the heavens remind you to call out to God with praise and worship daily.

Let every created thing give praise to the Lord, for he issued his command, and they came into being. He set them in place forever and ever. His decree will never be revoked. Psalm 148:5-6

The Psalmist took us back to when it all started, “In the beginning…” Nothing happened by accident. God set everything in place. Forever and ever means no one can change a thing.

I’m thankful that God set everything firmly in place. If He hadn’t, Satan could have easily hurled stars a hundred times larger than the earth at us. Call to God, thanking Him with worship.

The earth has faithfully orbited the sun since its creation. While en route, it takes its cue from the heavens by joining the symphony of songs glorifying the Lord.

Praise the Lord from the earth, you creatures of the ocean depths, fire and hail, snow and clouds, wind and weather that obey him, mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, wild animals and all livestock, small scurrying animals and birds. Psalm 148:7-10

The earth and its makeup answered the Psalmist’s call to worship. From ocean depths to mountain peaks, from weather patterns to wild creatures, all creation praises God.

Fire and hail, snow and wind obey His commands. Mountains rise as monuments of His strength. Animals display His creativity, from the tiniest insect to the largest creatures in the depths of the sea.

    A Call To Worship

Creation Reflects the Glory of God

Every detail in creation reflects His craftsmanship. The earth’s praise reveals God’s immanence; His nearness. He works not only in heaven’s heights but also in earth’s deepest crevices.

When He speaks, the winds and waves obey Him. He sustains life in every corner of the planet. Because God controls the oceans and weather, know that He can govern the storms in our lives.

When chaos threatens to overwhelm you, remember that nothing escapes His authority. The same God who tells the snow when to fall also tells your heart when to rest.

After mentioning angels, skies, seas, and creatures that offer praise to God, the Psalmist turns to humanity. Humans must lead in answering the call to worship.

… kings of the earth and all people, rulers and judges of the earth, young men and young women, old men and children. Let them all praise the name of the Lord. Psalm 148:12–13

The Psalmist included the most influential to the uninfluential. Why? Because worship knows no boundaries. God didn’t exempt any age group from a call to worship and praise Him.

    In Christ, He unites all generations and people groups. The rich and the poor, the young and the old, stand on equal footing before the throne of grace. The reason for this universal call;

For his name is very great; his glory towers over the earth and heaven! Psalm 148:13

God deserves praise because of who He is—His name and glory surpass everything else. Instead of offering God worship, some people call Him non-existent or regard Him as just another god.

As believers, we carry a unique responsibility. Unlike the stars or oceans, we choose whether or not to praise God. Our worship flows not from instinct but from relationship.

    Call Us To Worship

Why Did God Call Us To Worship Him?

We praise Him not only because He created us but because He redeemed us through Christ. The Psalmist concluded with a promise that God would strengthen His faithful people.

He has made his people strong, honoring his faithful ones— the people of Israel who are close to him. Praise the Lord! Psalm 148:14

The Lord delights in the praises of His people. As we exalt Him, He strengthens us. Worship does not drain us; it empowers us. Praise shifts our focus from problems to promises.

It transforms anxiety into trust and despair into hope. God also honors those who remain faithful. Praise is not empty noise—it reflects a covenant relationship.

When Israel answered the call to worship, their praise acknowledged God’s deliverance and protection. For us, it proclaims the victory of Christ and the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit.

    Call Us To Worship

    Living a Life of Praise

Psalm 148 teaches us that worship stretches far beyond a Sunday service. All creation praises God by fulfilling its purpose. In obedience, the sun shines, the seas roar, and the stars sparkle.

Likewise, we glorify God by living in alignment with His will. We must also answer His call to praise Him and worship His name.

A lifestyle of praise and worship includes:

    • Thanksgiving – Express gratitude daily for God’s blessings, big and small.
    • Obedience – Honor God through choices that reflect His character.
    • Witness – Use your voice to testify of His goodness to others.

When you worship, you join the universal choir—a song that began before time and will continue into eternity. You declare that God reigns supreme over all your circumstances and your heart.

Lord, thank you for the invitation to join all creation in praising your name. Teach me to worship with my words, actions, and attitude as I call unto you. Strengthen my heart as I exalt You.
