A humble and caring leader

Matthew 20:28 ~ “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Good day beautiful people,

I hope that this post meets you well?

Having good leaders contributes towards building healthy well balanced societies, organisations and households, but how can someone become a ‘great’ leader? I personally believe we can learn a lot from observing the life of Christ.

So, what characteristics make Jesus so perfect and what attributes can we aspire to emulate in our every day dealings as leaders and or Christ representatives wherever God has placed us?

Now, the descriptions in today’s write up are not exhaustive but I believe are very important for us to remember. The main characteristic which I desire to highlight today is that Christ was HUMBLE. I cannot highlight this enough, humility is extremely important and unfortunately in today’s society people in positions of authority like to lord it over those under them. Sadly some individuals enter into ministry simply because they crave power and want to control others (or manipulate others for money). But Christ was not like this.

1. Christ served His disciples

Jesus literally washed His disciples feet. This is very significant because the feet can be fairly dirty and can be exposed to bacteria especially in cases where people have no footwear. (The average foot has 600 sweat glands per square centimetre). I’m going to assume that Jesus carried out this process kneeling down, this just shows how humble Christ was, and we are to follow in His footsteps. He humbled Himself by giving up His divine privileges and taking on human flesh.

John 13:1-5 ~ “Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth, and now he loved them to the very end. It was time for supper, and the devil had already prompted Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.

2. Christ put others first before Himself

Jesus understood the need for His disciples to rest. Another very important note to make is that Christ did not overwork His disciples. Sadly in some ministries people are overworked to the point of burnout whilst those in positions of leadership enjoy luxurious privileges without participating in any groundwork. This is not Christ like at all.

Mark 6:45 ~ “Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and head across the lake to Bethsaida, while he sent the people home.”

^^^To understand the full context of the above passage please read Mark 6:30-44.

I believe that if you aspire to be a leader that you should understand that you have a duty to care for others. It is an honour to be in a position where you are blessed enough to be able to serve others and uplift them.

I hope that you could take something away from today’s post. God bless.
