A Piece of Peace

“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.” – John 14:27 (CSB)
Peace. Even the word sounds like something we need, something we want. We all crave peace in our crazy, busy lives. We need to realize first that through Jesus and what He did for us on the Cross, we are declared righteous and are then reconciled with God if we believe. There is no greater peace we can have in our soul especially when life gets too loud and crazy.
How do you find a sliver of peace? Tell God in prayer that you need to rest your mind. Ask Him to help you see it, hear it, and feel it in your soul. You may get a peaceful night’s sleep. You may find that your plans get canceled or changed. Rather than get upset by the pause button, realize the chance to breathe. God knows your language. He will speak to you in a way you understand.
I went to my horse’s pasture to take care of him and do the things horse ownership demands. My life was busy and that was just one more thing to check off my list. The weather had been disagreeable, but the rain had stopped and the wind had died down. As I got out of my truck, I pulled my jacket together and felt a reluctant smile stretch wide. Three mares lay stretched out on the hill, two more and my gelding sat watching me near the hay round, and one mare stood guard over them all. I walked out unhurriedly, trying to not disturb them. I slowly lowered myself next to my big guy and he nickered softly. Then I sat quietly as they shared a beautiful piece of their peace. My gelding stretched out flat as I became part of their tranquility. My breathing slowed and I’m pretty sure my blood pressure dropped a few numbers. I drank in the quiet. It was completely unexpected and truly the best part of my day.
Psalm 23 tells us, “He lets us lie down in green pastures and He leads us beside still waters.” He knows how to renew our souls and give us rest. We just need to be able to see the peace He sends and experience it. Let Him restore you today.
