An Open Letter To Our Friends - Enjoying the Journey

The Lord has been very gracious to me and to my family. Twenty-one years ago I came to Powell, Tennessee to attend Crown College. It was here that I met my beautiful wife. It was here that God allowed me to come under the influence of Pastor Clarence Sexton. It was here that I was trained for the ministry.
When I graduated from Crown, Pastor Sexton asked if I would consider staying to help with a few projects. That was more than eighteen years and more than a few projects ago. Serving Christ in this place has been a great honor. I have been blessed to serve under one of God’s choice servants and with some of the finest Christians I have ever known.
Over the last several months the Lord has worked deeply in my heart and the heart of my wife. We believe at this season of life that He has called us to give our efforts to full time evangelistic endeavors to reach people with the gospel and help other local churches.
Pastor Sexton has been in every way a spiritual father to me. Our hearts are sad at the prospect of leaving the work and people that we have grown to love, but confident that this is the leading of God. I plan to do all I can to help the work of Crown College move forward and am grateful for the close relationship we continue to enjoy. By God’s grace, we are going to take the same emphasis we have been taught to many different places.
In January of 2016 we will begin traveling full time in evangelism. My burden is concentrated on four things:
- The gospel. It is my prayer that God will use us in specific ways to both give the gospel and help train others to do the same. The gospel is still “the power of God unto salvation.” We are standing on the threshold of the return of Christ and our generation needs the gospel more than ever.
- Revival. My heart is hungry to see a spiritual awakening in our day. Homes, churches, and communities need to experience the moving of the Holy Spirit and be stirred to obedience. The hope of America is not simply having “our man” in political office; it is having God in His rightful place again. I hope to place an emphasis on prayer in every place where the Lord allows me to minister and call on people to begin a definite prayer effort for revival.
- Young people. In God’s providence much of my work has been with young people. Through the Temple Baptist Church youth ministry, our camps, Youth Congress, and the training of students at Crown College, my heart has been stirred for a generation in desperate need of Christ. The passion of my heart is to help call another generation to love and follow Jesus Christ.
- Training and equipping others. The truth of “able to teach others also” has been the guiding principle of the work in which I have been allowed to be a part. I am truly grateful for all that has been invested in me. Tammy and I are praying that the Lord will allow us to conduct training sessions in many places “for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12).
Having grown up in a pastor’s home and working for the same pastor for the last eighteen years, I hope that the Lord will make us an encouragement to pastors and local churches. Discouragement is rampant. Our time is short. The spiritual battle is intense. Jesus is coming and we must work while we can.
We are excited to begin the next season of life and ministry. Our new website, scottpauley.org will be unveiled over the next few weeks. It will help to provide more information on the work God has given us to do. Please pray for our children, Morgan, Lauren, and Grant as we take this step of faith together.
