Anchored in Faith: Finding God's Assurance Amidst Life's Storms of Anxiety

When there are no signs amidst the dark and scary storms, how do we assure you that God is with you?

I find it difficult to hold on to God’s promises, especially when my heart is weak enough to be strong and blind enough to see what is unseen. The Bible says that hope that is seen is not hope. But to hope in the Lord is to anticipate things patiently, even if it is not visible.

How challenging is that right?

It takes a firm faith to hope and experience joy when everything around you seems to be falling apart.

There are a lot of sleepless nights and wet pillows in the middle of the night. When we are anxious, the pain in our hearts is so loud amidst the silence around us. No matter what we do, the weight on our shoulders seems to get heavier.

We may also feel guilty of feeling anxious because not everyone would understand where we are coming from. Sadly, I even heard some church leaders themselves seem to sensationalize mental health issues.

So, for us who are in pain, it feels like it is better to keep our struggles to ourselves rather than be judged or invalidated.

Thus, how can we find God’s assurance amidst the raging storms of our anxieties?

If we search the Bible, we would be surprised that the only thing we need to find God’s assurance amidst our struggles is to be still and know He is God.

Mark 4:35-41 tells a story of how Jesus calms the storm when His disciples are filled with fear and anxiety. This story provides a robust message of trust, faith, and finding genuine assurance during life’s storms.

One night, Jesus and His disciples set out in a boat to cross the Sea of Galilee. The disciples were furious when a fierce storm arose with waves crashing into the boat, threatening to engulf them.

Jesus was asleep in the stern when Their pleas awakened him. He arose and stopped the wind and the waves, saying, “Peace! Be still.” Then, the storm ceased immediately, and there was a great calm.

Jesus turned to His disciples, asking, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

When the storm in your lives arose, and the problems crashed into your soul, Jesus asked you why you were so afraid. After everything I have done, why do you doubt I am with you and will calm the raging sea?

God’s assurance is always there. If you open your Bible, you will discover all His amazing promises that could guarantee that He is our miracle and way maker. However, these promises would only come to life if we believed and strengthened our faith in Him.

It takes solid faith to find rest and security in God’s presence. God’s assurance does not rely on what He can do but lies in our faith. If we believe, then we will receive. If we seek Him, then we will be found. If we knock on the door, then it will be open.
