Are you sure of your Identity in Christ? - Lisa E Betz

What keeps you from living as authentically as you would like? A few months back I asked my readers this question and they replied loud and clear: Struggling with self-worth and self-confidence. We allow other people’s opinions and expectations to determine our worth and identity instead of believing what the Bible says about our identity in Christ.

When we believe our worth is based on what we do, how we look, and who accepts us, we are stuck on a hamster wheel of constantly striving to prove our value. We measure ourselves by the expectations of others, compare ourselves to the ultra-successful, and try to please the impossible-to-please.

No wonder we lack confidence, feel exhausted, and doubt our worth!

Knowing who we are in Christ sets us free from the need to impress others.

Joyce Meyer

The solution? Stand on the fact that our worth is based on who God says we are. That’s why many of the readers who responded to my survey asked for a devotional that would help them strengthen their identity in Christ.

And I’ve done just that!

It’s one thing to know our identity in Christ, and another to fully believe it

I say I trust God. I want to trust God. But, when I’m facing unpleasantness, I tend to focus on the problem and forget about trusting God. Sound familiar?

When we have trust issues with God, it’s often because we’ve been spending too much time listening to the negative, judgmental messages of the world around us and too little time listening to what God says.

Being consumed with what people think of you is the fastest way to forget what God thinks of you.

How to build your identity in Christ on a sturdy foundation

The more we get to know God, the easier it is to trust him. That’s where my 14-day devotional comes in. Each day, the devotional focuses on one name of God.

Why? Because each name (or title) of God reveals a facet of who he is. By studying multiple names, we are reminded of the many aspects of God, from his mighty power to his all-sufficient provision, to his fatherly love.

The more facets we study, the more accurate our understanding of the whole. The more fully we know God, the easier it becomes to trust him, which helps us trust all his promises about our identity, worth, and purpose.

All of which enables us to live a more confident, authentic, meaningful life.

Introducing the 14-day devotional designed to strengthen your identity in Christ.

Each day explores what one of God’s names reveals about His character and abilities. Learn more about God’s power and goodness so you can begin to transform the way you think about who you are in light of God’s great love for you.

Each day features:

  • A name of God from Scripture – so you can get to know the many aspects of His character and what that means for your relationship with Him.
  • A key Bible verse – so you’ll be armed with God’s truth whenever you’re tempted to get discouraged.
  • A list of truths that help you apply this name to everyday situations – because in our hectic lives we need reminders of how to thrive and not give up.
  • Additional verses and study questions – for those who want to go deeper into the meaning and implications of this facet of God’s truth.
  • A brief prayer – to thank Him for this amazing aspect of His character and ask for His grace as you live in this new truth.

We didn’t get to choose our DNA, body type, birthday, time slot in history or many of our circumstances and challenges. But make no mistake, we get to choose what kind of women we’re going to be.

Beth Moore
