Back to the Basics

With our plan and goal this year being to enlarge our territories and enter into the open spaces God has called us to, perhaps it is time to go back to the basics of our faith. Time to ensure we are in the right step to actualize our targets. Even as we go back to our normal routines and maybe it is time to form new habits if so needed.

“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock"
Matthew 7: 24 (NLT)

We will start the next few weeks by delving into and trying to understand the 9 part Fruit of the Spirit.

How do we measure our walk and level of intimacy with God? How much room are we giving the Holy Spirit to move in our lives? We test ourselves through the manifestations of the fruit of the spirit in our lives. We test ourselves not for fallacies and frivolous reasons but because the Word states in 2 Timothy 2: 15:

“ Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth."

This means our walk with God is dependent on spending time in the Word and allowing that word to flow through our lives, to transform our minds and our pre-engineered ways of thinking and acting. The Holy Spirit does a work of transformation in our lives to help us look more and more like Christ. So our thought patterns, tendencies and therefore our actions reflect the mind of Christ. No one from birth comes with the mindset of Christ. Even if we might appear morally righteous and seem like our actions are good, it is only when we pass it through the lens of the Word can we stand confidently on the fact that it is right. I hope that makes sense? If not, we have the new series to delve deeper into these things!

Delve into the Word!

Connect to the Vine

In order to know more of God and allow His Holy Spirit have its full work in us, we are required to remain plugged into the Source which is Jesus Christ. We do this by staying in the Word. In order to #SeekGodMore we need to find every opportunity to stay connected to Him. It’s like we are falling in love with Christ all over again. Christ as our husbandman requires our attention. No one ever wants a marriage that is stale, instead we stay dating and learning more and more about this God. Imagine He has already done the ultimate sacrifice showing us that He is in this for the long haul, and He is utterly committed and devoted to us. Imagine the grace He shows us daily when we aren’t as loving, faithful to Him or as committed in our marriage to Him.

Yet, He patiently waits for us, still provides for us and performs his duties as our husband whilst not fully receiving from us what was promised in our vows.

Back to Our First Love

I Love You GIF

It’s time to go back to our first love. To re-discover our first love and pour our affections and attention on Him. Who wouldn’t want to be courted over and over again? We speak sweet words to Him and commune with Him in prayer and use our words of affirmation to speak His refreshing words back over our own lives. We spend quality time with Him and fulfill His love languages. We shower gifts on Him by providing for His flock and those in need as He stated in His Word. We live a life of service by working to support His ministry on Earth. We are physically present by showing up to fellowship with the brethren and being His hands and feet within our community.

Ultimately, God helping us as we embark on this journey, we are reminded that only God can help us and He alone is our Source as we go back to the basics of our faith.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."
John 15:4 (NIV)
