Application:
To vow means to swear, take an oath, pledge, promise, affirm, avow, undertake, give an undertaking, engage, commit, commit oneself, make a commitment, give one’s word, give one’s word of honour, give an assurance or guarantee. How would you feel if you worked for a month and your boss refused to pay you? Would you have been happy to continue working without the necessary payment that your contract or bargain dictated that you were entitled to? I bet not!
Now let’s talk about our oaths to God. In the midst of our sticky situations, we tend to bargain with God. We appeal for His deliverance while committing to do something in return. Oftentimes when God delivers on His end, we forget our part of the bargain or refuse to fulfill our promise. That is definitely not fair to God!
How many times have you made pledges to God in the midst of your deep trouble? Did you give your word that you would execute some action, if God came through for you? How many times did God come through for you yet you have failed to uphold your end of the deal? Like David, your word should be your bond. Honour your vows to God.
