[Bible Play] Five Loaves and Two Fish + Box Play
Hi everyone! Today, I’m excited to share a Five Loaves and Two Fish Miracle Box Play activity that helps children experience the story of Jesus feeding the multitude in a fun and memorable way. From the top, it looks like only a tiny lunchbox with very little food inside—but hidden underneath is a large box full of food that keeps coming out. Through this surprise, children learn that what looks small in our hands becomes abundant in God’s hands. Ready to see the miracle box open?
What You’ll Need
＊ 1 large box (to hold plenty of snacks)
＊ 1 small box (to sit on top of the large box)
＊ A hole cut in the bottom of the small box
＊ Bread, crackers, fruit snacks, or other treats
＊ Plates or bowls
＊ Dolls, toys, siblings, or family members
＊ Decorative cloth or paper (optional)
How to Prepare
Fill the large box with plenty of snacks.
Place the small box on top of the large box.
Cut a hand-sized hole in the bottom of the small box so you can reach into the large box below.
From the top view, children only see the small box and think there is very little food inside.
So it appears to be a small lunchbox, but actually it hides a box of abundance.
Step by Step Guide
1. “Everyone is hungry!”
Seat children, toys, or family members on the floor.
Say:
“Many people came to hear Jesus teach.”
“They stayed so long that everyone became hungry!”
Help children imagine the scene.
2. “This is all we have?”
Show the small top box.
Say:
“We only have this little lunchbox.”
“How can we feed everyone with so little?”
Most children will say:
“That’s not enough!”
“We need more!”
That moment sets up the lesson perfectly.
3. Miracle Moment: Offer it to Jesus
Invite your child to place a hand on the box and say:
“Jesus, please use what we have.”
Then reach into the small box and pull out one snack.
Then another.
Then another.
Then another.
Children quickly realize:
“It keeps coming out!”
“There’s more!”
4. Feed Everyone
Continue pulling out snacks and handing them to everyone around the room.
Let your child help serve:
“One for you!”
“Here you go!”
“Everyone gets some!”
Children love seeing the box keep giving.
5. Gather What Is Left
After everyone has eaten, collect the leftovers.
Say:
“Jesus told them to gather the pieces that remained.”
“God’s gifts are precious.”
What Your Child Learns
● God provides: What seems too small is enough in God’s hands.
● Faith over fear: We trust God even when resources look limited.
● Joy of sharing: God’s blessings are meant to be shared.
● Bible stories become real: Children remember what they experience.

● Make sure the boxes are stable and do not collapse.
