Bury the hatchet!

Calvary Chapel Pastors Conference

I am speaking today at the Calvary Chapel Senior Pastors Conference at Murrieta Hot Springs here in California. There are around a thousand pastors here from Calvary Chapels from around the world.

I will see a lot of good friends here, too many to name. We have been going through the book of 1 Thessalonians together. I will be speaking from 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11. So, remember me in prayer.

Sins against the Holy Spirit

2. Grieving the Spirit

I have been talking about specific sins we can commit against the Holy Spirit. Yesterday, I dealt briefly with “Lying to the Spirit.”

Another sin we can commit, and this would be believers, is we can grieve the Spirit. Ephesians 4:30–31 tells us, “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice” (NIV).

The phrase “to grieve” means “to make sad or sorrowful.” When we allow bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander to take place in our lives, we grieve and sadden the Holy Spirit.

Have you been flying into fits of rage? Are you harboring a grudge against someone? Have you been slandering (speaking lies about) anyone lately? Or have you been spreading info you do not know to be true?

It’s time to bury the hatchet! (Just not in someone’s back!)

All of those things grieve the Holy Spirit. Let’s not do that today, but instead by led by the Spirit! Romans 8:14 says, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (NKJV).
