Signposts of Exaltation

Good morning, friends! Day Thirty-One! It is easy to become apathetic or weary in this world. But we must never forget our purpose. We were made to exalt God. We are signposts of exaltation, proclaiming His goodness and faithfulness.

 Bible Reading: Isaiah 25-30

Verse of the day: Isaiah 25:1, “LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.”

Word of the day: Exalt. It is the Hebrew word: רוּם (room).

This word means: To lift up, raise.

God’s Exaltation

Today’s reading begins with a song of joy smack dab in the middle of tribulation. Isaiah is exalting God for what He has done and what He will do. He chooses to exalt God right in the middle of hard. Here are two of my favorite verses in this chapter, verses 8 and 9:

“He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken. 9 It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”

I don’t know about you, but doesn’t this make you want to exalt God with all your might?

Faithfulness Fuels Our Worship

Sometimes I look out at the congregation and I see lackluster worship. This does not seem to resemble the exaltation we were created to bring.

Taking a tip from Isaiah, we need to inform our worship with remembrances of God’s faithfulness. We need to remember what He has done and look to His promises to fuel our worship. Our flesh does not want to praise anyone other than ourselves. But we cannot be signposts of exaltation for God if we are always thinking about ourselves or the problems in this world.

Application

  • When we fix our eyes on God and His word, we will exalt God.
  • When we fix our eyes on ourselves, we will exalt self.

Go with God and His precious word, friends! Join us tomorrow in the book of Psalms.
