EFFECTS OF POLYGAMY

Memorise: “And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth” (Luke 12:15)

Read: 1 Kings 11:1-10

polyThe polygamous home is anything but peaceful. Because polygamy is the contrivance of man, borne out of fleshly lusts, it negates God’s original plan of bringing a man and a woman together to become one (Matthew 19:3-9). Polygamy is one satanic medium of turning the home that was designed to be Heaven on earth into a war zone. Selfishness and self-centeredness are regular features in such homes. Polygamous homes are prone to in-house strife, quarrels, suspicion, division, envy, murder, etc.

God cannot be the author of polygamy when all its characteristics negate God’s glorious plans for the family. Whether you are a public or private polygamist, you are a bad role model. Parents are supposed to show good examples to their children and wards, but a polygamist by his action is making a statement that it is right to be a polygamist. Children of polygamists will require God’s grace not to be one.

Several broken homes can be traced to polygamy, which has become a silent breeding ground for rape, armed robbery, hired assassins, prostitution, ritual murders, etc. Some of these were rife in the polygamous home of king David. Polygamy steals the heart of the polygamist from God.

The numerous wives of king Solomon turned him from serving the Almighty God into serving several idols. Solomon became a devotee of the idols his numerous wives served (1 Kings 11:1-5). Any public or private polygamist can be sure that his heart is far flung from God. The polygamist is separated from God. It is a mark of greed and covetousness not to be faithful to one partner.

Find out, the one who says one wife is not enough and takes a second wife, will still be seeing a third, or fourth or more women outside. Polygamy is only an excuse to be loose. If you look at the polygamist, you will find greed manifesting in other areas of his life. The polygamist lays a foundation for his children to have broken marriages in the future. The church must eradicate both public and private polygamy. You have a part to play in this. Are you married? Remain faithful to your partner.

If you are married to an individual, you have accepted his or her God. Polygamy turned king Solomon into the greatest idolater of his time.
