Embracing Humility: How All Credits Belong to God in Our Lives

"Whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith." - Philippians 3:7-9

In these profound words from Philippians, we find a treasure trove of wisdom about humility and the recognition that all credits genuinely belong to God in our spiritual journey.

This passage, penned by Paul, is not just an ancient text but a living guide, illuminating the path to a life centered in Christ.

Paul, a figure of immense religious and intellectual stature, understood something that often eludes many of us: the insignificance of worldly achievements and accolades compared to the immeasurable worth of knowing Christ. It's a radical idea, isn't it?

To consider all our successes, the things we often pride ourselves on, as 'losses' for the sake of something greater.

Today, it’s easy to get caught up in pursuing personal achievements. We live in a society that often measures worth by the yardstick of success, influence, and material wealth.

But Paul’s words remind us of a different value system where humility and faith precede worldly gains.

'Embracing humility' is not about undermining our accomplishments or skills. Instead, it's about acknowledging that every talent, every success, and every blessing we have is not solely of our own making. It's about recognizing that 'all credits belong to God.'

This doesn't diminish our efforts but places them in the proper perspective. Our abilities are God-given, our opportunities are often orchestrated by His hand, and our successes are ultimately for His glory.

Moreover, Paul speaks of righteousness 'that comes from God based on faith.' This is crucial. Paul invites us to find our worth and identity in Christ in a world that often promotes self-reliance and self-righteousness.

We cannot earn this righteousness through deeds or law; it is a gift graciously given to us through faith in Jesus Christ.

Embracing this humility transforms how we live. It changes our interactions, our decisions, and our priorities. It molds us into individuals who are grateful for every blessing and keenly aware of the source of all these blessings.

It fosters a heart that is quick to give credit where it’s due - to God.

In the end, embracing humility is about living a life that mirrors the life of Christ - a life marked by love, service, and an unwavering trust in God.

As we journey through our days, let's remind ourselves of Paul's wisdom in Philippians. Let's strive to view our accomplishments as avenues to glorify God, remembering that in the grand narrative of faith, all credits indeed belong to Him.

As we close, let's reflect on how we can embody this humility daily. How can we shift our focus from self-glorification to glorifying God? Let's take a moment to ponder this and ask God to help us live out this truth each day.
