Enter New Jerusalem, the Holy of Holies
Revelation 21:16 says about New Jerusalem, “the length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.”
The dimensions of the Holy of Holies, both in the tabernacle and in the temple, were equal in length, breadth, and height (Exo. 26:2-8; 1 Kings 6:20). The Holy of Holies in the tabernacle was a cube measuring ten cubits in each dimension, and the Holy of Holies in the temple was a cube measuring twenty cubits in each dimension. The fact that the length, breadth, and height of the New Jerusalem are equal indicates that the entire New Jerusalem as the holy city is the Holy of Holies. Therefore, the New Jerusalem is the Holy of Holies enlarged to the uttermost.*
Hebrews 9:7 tells us that the Old Testament high priest (and no one else) could enter the holy of holies only once a year.
Hebrews 10 presents the redemption and victory accomplished by Christ and the making of the new covenant. Verse 10:19 then declares that now we have “boldness for entering the Holy of Holies in the blood of Jesus.”
The door was closed due to the fall of man but Jesus opened the way by His death and resurrection. Now we enter the spiritual holy of holies. He shed His blood for our cleansing. Therefore, “let us come forward to the Holy of Holies with a true heart in full assurance of faith” (Heb. 10:22). This is our foretaste of New Jerusalem!
