Examining the Evidence

I’ve been to Israel.  Walking on the streets of the Old City and passing through the gates of Jerusalem definitely brought the Bible to life.  Seeing the sights and hearing the sounds of this ancient land will take you on a journey back through time.  While being in the place where Jesus walked changed my perspective, it did not change the foundation of my faith.

“What?!”

“Didn’t seeing those places of the Bible increase your faith?”, you might ask.

Of course.  But my point is,

I didn’t need to see the physical evidence of Jesus to believe that He is real.

While every archeological discovery continues to verify the words of The Bible, I trust Him more because of what was written in His Word than by what can be proven by any human effort intended to give validation to its authenticity.

“The life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”  Galatians 2:20

I don’t like to argue, but I have to admit that when I had a conversation recently about the authenticity of the Bible, I got somewhat defensive.  Because this matters.  The very core of Christianity is founded on the truth of The Bible.  Despite what the world says, the Bible is very clear that there is only one way to know truth, and Jesus himself said,

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6

Here’s the problem.

If we’re not careful we can allow an experience or our emotions to guide us rather than truth.

This Holy Bible is no ordinary book.  Divinely inspired, it has been perfected and preserved with no contradiction or error in its writing despite the number of years and authors.  God not only ordained it, but He has protected it through time, including times when efforts were made to destroy it.

“One of the most amazing testimonies to Scripture’s truth is its preservation over thousands of years despite sometimes intense efforts to destroy it. The Bible has not only been preserved, but translated into over two thousand languages (both ancient and modern).”  [Answers in Genesis]

All because He wants us to know him. 

“But the Scripture has imprisoned everything under sin’s power, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.”  Galatians 3:22

I am a believer, are you?  I am not perfect, but I do have a perfect Savior who continues to reveal Himself through His Word.

And that’s all the evidence I need.
