Extinguishing Shame from Finances - Denise Pass

Shame RX: Our finances aren’t ours to start with.

Psalm 24:1

“The earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell therein.”

Standing at the checkout, a lump in my throat began to form. The amount was adding up to more than I thought it was going to be. The line behind me was getting longer and the dread of the potential shame was looming over me like a heavy balloon. (Had to say that, since balloons are the main tool I used to describe letting go of shame – perhaps, sand-filled). 🙂

What was this shame? Embarrassment over my need. Over not being able to buy what I wanted. Over having people watch me in my humbling moment and having to put items back.

Not on that day, but on another day, when I got the opportunity to help another person in a similar position, it hit me. Our finances aren’t ours to start with.

Any shame I had over provision was discontentment and not trusting the portion God had given. And what God has given does not define or limit our worth. If we are faithful with a little, He makes us faithful with much—all  for His glory!
