Faith Over Fear

“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” -- Ephesians 5:15-16

Most people get a knot in their stomach when they stop and think about the demonic spirit world.

When we hear that there are angels among us, we typically only think of holy angels. However, the Bible is very clear that Satan, a fallen angel, and those who serve him would love nothing more than to kill, steal, and destroy every one of us.

There was a time in my life when I was terrified of evil spirits. So much so that I allowed that fear to paralyze my witness for Jesus. I let fear overshadow my faith in the power of Jesus.

    BUT GOD.

When I finally realized I was giving more attention to fear than to God, that is when I hit my knees in prayer. “God help me. I don’t like how fear makes me feel. Help me overcome the fear. Please show me how to break the chains of evil around me.” The Holy Spirit immediately led me to James chapter four, highlighting some life-changing tools.

    Submit to God:

We are to walk in wisdom using our time and talents wisely, and to be anchored to Him and Him alone. We are called to put on the full armor of God by staying in the Word and writing it on our hearts. Jesus taught us to defeat evil by speaking Scripture over it.

    Resist the devil:

Beware, Satan never plays fair. Do not give him any ammunition to use against you. He is a master at finding tiny cracks in our lives, only to fuel those minor problems into giant stumbling blocks. Ask God for His help in recognizing any areas in your life where evil is lurking.

The devil will flee in Jesus’ name:

Darkness cannot stand the light. When we walk in SONshine the enemy must flee! When we armor up with the authority given to us, in Jesus’ name, we can stand against evil. God never intended for us to fight our battles alone.

When we choose Jesus as the Lord and Savior of our lives, Satan loses. Unfortunately, that does not stop him from trying to detour our witness to others. Which is why I believe he does all he can to try to bind us in fear.

I encourage you to walk in the authority of Jesus Christ. Armor up, stand up, and walk in the light of Jesus. Read the Bible and memorize scripture so you are prepared the next time Satan comes a calling.

    QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION:

    1. Where is Satan not playing fair in our world today?

    2. What areas in your life is God calling you to armor up?

    3. How is your witness overcoming evil?
