Why do you think fasting is important?

I see fasting as an opportunity to draw closer to God. When I fast, I'm in a sense sacrificing something that I enjoy to seek God's face, His direction, and inviting Him to be in everything that I am, have, or am doing.

What does your personal fasting practice look like?

I normally fast the first day of the month as a way of presenting the month to Him. On those days, I fast all food and liquids except for water and black coffee for 6-8 hours.

I usually do a Daniel Fast once every year. I've done it several times in a year because we had a lot of things happening that I needed God to come through for. Regardless if the results come or not, it has helped build my trust and dependence on Him.

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to fasting?

I think we never really want to do it! lol I recently fasted desserts and white carbs for a long period of time for several reasons. My biggest challenge with that one was telling my husband I was doing it because I didn't trust that I would actually follow through. I'm happy to say that I did. :)

Can you recall a time God gave you a breakthrough, revelation, or taught you something through fasting?

I can't remember of a particular breakthrough or revelation but I did experience feelings of closeness, comfort, and security to God while fasting. I was sad to end my fast because I knew it wasn't going to feel the same.

    Fasting to Seek God's Face

What is your best advice for someone who is new to fasting?

    Just do it! LOL.

New things are always scary because we don't know how to do them, or we don't know what to expect. We often just have to jump in and do them and figure it out as we go.

Fasting is the same way. There isn't a right or wrong way to fast if you're doing it with the right motive and direction from God.

Do you have a favorite recipe(s) or meal(s) for the Daniel Fast?

I honestly don't have one. I eat a lot of random foods when on the Daniel Fast. I do love some guacamole and chips! There's also some great veggie burgers I get from Trader Joe's that I love to eat with brown rice.

Any additional info, tips, scriptures, or reflections you would like to share?

Motive and intentions are a big deal. I would say to make sure that you are fasting for the right reasons.
