Filling God's Prescription - Jewell Utt

A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22

Have you ever bounced over to share an idea with someone, only to be met by a critical spirit?  Criticism, like pessimism  detects the wrong, the impossible. It can be a violent tool that crushes hope, destroys dreams and breaks the spirit. Eeyore, the donkey from Winnie the Pooh, epitomizes the pessimist. Tigger, in contrast, is a bouncy Tiger who inspires laughter and joy.

The bible sets a cheerful heart alongside a broken spirit. Could Tigger’s bounce be more appealing to God than Eeyore’s gloomy outlook? May we be ever mindful not to crush the hopes and dreams of another, but to bask in the joy of possibility. Joy unleashes God’s best for our lives, and spurs others onto love and good deeds.

Fill that prescription for your heart today, it’s good medicine.
