Celebrating a Faith Freedom

“In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.” -- Ephesians 3:12 (NIV)
Have you ever met someone famous, and how did you act when you met them? I stuttered and got all tongue-tied once when I spotted Sam Bradford, the Heisman Trophy winner, in a restaurant a few years ago. My heart raced as I walked across the restaurant. I rehearsed what I wanted to say, only to forget half of it when I finally stood in front of him. And I worried he might feel too important to talk to me? I’m sure I came across as a star-struck teen. But I got his autograph.
Do you get tongue-tied when you pray to our Heavenly Father? Maybe you feel like God is too busy or too important to hear your prayers. Then this is a verse for you. I love how Paul explains to us in Ephesians 3:12 that we can approach God with freedom and confidence. That freedom allows us to share our hearts with the Creator of the universe, knowing He is always ready to listen. Our God is not some untouchable, distant being but is approachable, loving, and waiting to hear from us.
When I studied this verse, I found the original Greek word further defined this freedom as freedom in speaking, unreservedness in speech. To talk openly, frankly, i.e... without concealment. We don’t have to hide our feelings from God; He wants us to talk with Him openly and without concealment. Christ wants us to bare our hearts to Him and what a blessing that is for us. This freedom is available to all who believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior.
As our nation prepares to celebrate 250 years of freedom, may we never forget the greater freedom found in Christ; the freedom to approach God with confidence, knowing we are loved, heard, and welcomed into His presence.

Questions for Reflection:
1. What do you most appreciate about the freedom that our nation provides us?
2. What do you most appreciate about the freedom in Christ that God provides you?
