Do you want to find and pursue your soul purpose in life? Your soul purpose is why you’re here on this earth at this time. It’s what God created you to do on this earth and for your generation.

Find your soul purpose by discerning divine providence, taking stock of your proficiency, passion, and looking at where and how you can profit.

Revelation 1:9-11, 12-13, 17-19

9 I, John, your brother and partner in hardships, in the kingdom and in perseverance in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos on account of the Word of God and of witness to Jesus;

10 it was the Lord’s Day and I was in ecstasy, and I heard a loud voice behind me, like the sound of a trumpet, saying,

11 ‘Write down in a book all that you see, and send it to the seven churches of Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea.’

12 I turned round to see who was speaking to me, and when I turned I saw seven golden lamp-stands

13 and, in the middle of them, one like a Son of man, dressed in a long robe tied at the waist with a belt of gold.

17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead, but he laid his right hand on me and said, ‘Do not be afraid; it is I, the First and the Last; I am the Living One,

18 I was dead and look — I am alive for ever and ever, and I hold the keys of death and of Hades.

19 Now write down all that you see of present happenings and what is still to come.

Finding your Soul Purpose

I was watching these financial breakthrough testimonies from CBN partners, and I’m amazed to see a pattern.

Their increase always comes from following what God wants them to do.

And God who knows exactly who we are, calls them to use their gifts, what they are proficient in, fueled by what they are passionate about to produce something good that the market wants and make a profit.

Soul Purpose = Providence + Passion + Proficiency + Profit

Soul Purpose, what God has put you on this earth to do, is the sweet spot between providence, passion, proficiency, and profit.

If you pursue your passion plus your proficiency, what you’re good at but you’re not earning from it – you get a hobby.

If you’re proficient at something and you’re making a profit out of doing it but you don’t have passion for it – you get boredom.

If you’re passionate about something, and there’s a way to make a profit out of it but you don’t have the proficiency or the skills to do it, you should do your best to get proficient at it – otherwise, you’ll fail.

But when you start with asking God what He wants you to do, plus know clearly what you think you’re good at or gifted at, coupled with what you are passionate about – what you are truly energized about – and find a way to make a profit out of it, you get your soul purpose.

Finding my Purpose

In my life, I found this to be true.

Led by Profit plus Proficiency

I took up nursing because I thought that was the easiest path to getting abroad and earning much more money than working here in the Philippines. Talk about being led by profit.

But when I became a nurse, I figured out quickly that taking care of sick people stresses me out so much that work became a burden and a pain.

As a nurse, I found joy instead in talking with patients, encouraging them, and praying with them.

I also found it in making systems that make our job in the hospital and the clients’ experience seamless.

And then I loved it when I was playing and making music as well as writing songs for the Lord in our nursing band.

On the side, I was writing on my blog and in my journal about the Lord and what He is teaching me. That also energized me.

These I enjoy doing even without earning anything from it. I didn’t mind paying for my website even though I’m not earning anything from it. Because I believe that sharing with people about the Lord and His encouragement in my life is my ministry, my calling.

But we gotta eat so I was also looking for ways to earn more than what I’m making as a nurse.

I started applying as an ESL (English as a second language) teacher. I failed.

Then the Lord led me to the online space and I quickly found out that I could make a profit selling my writing and proofreading skills which I developed and honed by my love of reading and writing.

I found 2 part-time jobs – editing and proofreading – that helped me earn more than my nursing job.

Then something happened at work that helped me decide to finally make the transition to doing my online jobs full-time.

I believe the Lord allowed it to happen cause I was so set and comfortable working there and earning much on the sides.

Now that I’ve been working on my online jobs for 5 years now, I love the online work lifestyle – how it’s so flexible and I can work whenever, wherever I want – and I love that I’m earning 4x more than I’m earning before.

But I must admit that I feel no passion for my jobs.

My main job is as a virtual assistant for a tech media company writing about investing in emerging and disruptive technology. While it’s interesting to know about those cause these are about companies that changed the world with their technology, I’m not at all interested.

The other part-time online job is also as a virtual assistant helping edit blogs for a rental property management company, also something I’m not interested in.

But I’m so thankful and grateful for these companies because they help me provide for my family and fund the causes I’m passionate about.

Led by Passion plus Proficiency

Now the Lord has led me to start my own online entrepreneurial journey.

It started with me stumbling into the Print on Demand Merch industry, making designs for merchandise like t-shirts and such.

I remembered my old dream of starting a T-shirt business designed with the word of God.

I jumped on the opportunity. I loved it. It doesn’t matter that I’m still not earning from it

Woohoo, I’m on my way to earning residual recurring profits as an online entrepreneur!

Then God led me to start my own hybrid print-on-demand jewelry and digital shop even though I still have no audience.

Maybe that’s why He led me to focus on writing for my blog and posting videos on YouTube as a primary endeavor: to build my audience.

That’s you. God called me to prepare all these just for you.

So I can share with you what God has been teaching me

Now Your turn

So to the question “How do I find my soul purpose and should I follow my passion or work for profit?”

I say follow the Lord and obey what He calls you to do. That’s called divine providence.

God’s providence is God’s caring provision for His people as He guides them in their journey of faith through life, accomplishing His purpose in them. God’s mission is to save people and shape them to be more like Jesus.

He made you so He knows you inside out.

He knows what you’re proficient at. He knows what you’re passionate about. He knows where you can bless His people and make profits.

Seek God for wisdom to know what you’re good at and what to learn when you don’t, be passionate in anything you find your hand to do, and add value – blessing people – wherever He leads you to go.

I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for. Jeremiah 29:11 GNBDK

Find your soul purpose in God. He can use what you’re proficient at or help you gain wisdom in learning new skills, use your passion to fuel your work, and lead you to make a profit.
