Read Luke 13:31-35 Lament Over Jerusalem

Dear Sister Disciple,

Not everything in Scripture is personal. Sure, we are privileged to read it, but not all of it is for your eyes only. 

We had documents that had to be handled differently in the Army, based on their content: Top Secret, Secret, and Confidential. But there was a fourth category with unsharable information. Those documents were sealed, “Eyes Only.”

These words in Luke are for Jewish eyes only.

He replied, “Go tell that fox, ‘I will keep on driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day, I will reach My goal.’ In any case, I will press on today and tomorrow and the next day – for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem! Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings and you were not willing… I tell you, you will not see Me again until you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.’ Luke 13:32-34 &35b

Herod would eventually realize that no matter how cunning he was, there was no way he could stop Jesus. The Christ would not be frightened away. Demons will still be cast out, and people will be cured. The Son of God will journey today, tomorrow, and the next day.

God’s Plans

God’s plans could not be sabotaged or hindered. His mission will be accomplished. Unlike the prophets of old, they could kill Him, but they could not silence His message. Jesus’ eyes were set on salvation, His steps to reconciliation, and His body for the resurrection.

This message – for Jewish eyes only – reminds us just how blind they were to see Jesus as the Son of God. Until they confess that He comes in the name of God, then they will never see the truth. 

In Summary

Jesus took His orders seriously; He would not shorten even one day of His work to please someone else, even King Herod. Jesus could speak like this because, as the Son of God, He had witnessed the soothing of the prophets and knew their hearts.  

He sent the prophets to warn them. They were sent to turn the hearts of the children to God. But, instead, his offer of love and forgiveness was rejected, and they killed the prophets.

But now, the gospel could not and would not be silenced. 

Jewish eyes only:” Repent and be saved; the Kingdom of God is at hand.”
