God, Being Rich in Mercy, Made us Alive for New Jerusalem

A recent post was about us being vessels of mercy, prepared by God for Him to make known the riches of His glory. God’s glory being manifested culminates with New Jerusalem.

Our participation in New Jerusalem is due to God’s mercy. In ourselves we are not qualified to share in that city. Fallen man was shut out of the garden of Eden and away from the tree of life. Genesis 3:24 records that God “drove the man out, and…placed the cherubim and a flaming sword which turned in every direction to guard the way to the tree of life.”

New JerusalemAs fallen men we were “dead in your offenses and sins…and were by nature children of wrath” (Eph. 2:1, 3). “But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in offenses, made us alive together with Christ” (2:4-5).

To be made alive is to be born again, to be born of the Spirit in our human spirit (John 3:5-6) with the divine, eternal life, the life of New Jerusalem. Our receiving of this life is based on Christ’s redemption to provide us with forgiveness of all our sins and to cleanse us from being under death and wrath.

God great love, expressed through His rich mercy has qualified us for New Jerusalem.

    The Mall or the Manger?

Much has changed since the God of the universe decorated the night sky with the star of Bethlehem and directed the choir of angels in a chorus announcing the birth of Our Savior, Jesus Christ. But the commercialism doesn’t have to rule in our hearts and homes. This year let’s focus on the Christ Child and remember the true meaning of the holiday season. As we turn our eyes to the Babe in the manger, we will not view Christmas as a dreaded obligation or a major retail event. It will be a time of joyous celebration, honoring the One Who came to give us eternal life and worshipping our Heavenly Father.
