God Gives Us the Desires of Our Hearts

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Looking back, I see God's hand in my life. When an interesting boy from high school asked me out, I was surprised that my newly divorced mom let me go since I hadn’t turned 16. We eventually married just before he finished college and started our family. Growing up in alcoholism and domestic violence, I realize I might have chosen the wrong man, but God gave me a wonderful husband for nearly 30 years. His blessings gave me the marriage I had always hoped for.
After nearly 30 wonderful years of marriage, I began a new season of life when my husband passed away. I wanted to find the man God had for me, yet midlife dating was frustrating—even scary. I couldn’t imagine spending the rest of my life alone. After several dates, I almost gave up. Life alone seemed more appealing. One evening, the Lord nudged me to check my dating site messages: “If your profile’s true, WE'VE GOT TO MEET!!!” Unsure about this man’s exuberant message, I responded anyway. Now, we’ve been married for 11 years. God gave me my second husband, a wonderful Christian man who loves God and me with all his heart. God blessed me twice with the desires of my heart.
God blesses us when we delight in Him. Psalm 37 tells us not to fixate on evil people. Though tempting, God calls us to delight in Him, commit our lives to Him, and wait patiently. Fretting and anger will only lead to evil. He blesses us with good things when we desire what pleases Him. Soon, evil will be gone. God loves us and gives us good things.
A Christian dating site I joined to search for my second husband uses Psalm 37:4 as its theme verse. Why? Because the Lord wants to bless us with the right person He has for us. When we seek God for a Christian spouse, He never disappoints. If we appreciate the blessing of our sweethearts, we are indeed blessed. God loves and delights in you. Delight in Him as well.
