God’s Mercy Saved us to Glorify Him

It is God’s mercy that we were redeemed and made alive to have an entrance into New Jerusalem.New Jerusalem

Our natural goodness does not qualify us for New Jerusalem nor do any actions by ourselves. It is all of God. “He says, ‘I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.’ So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.” (Rom. 9:15-16).

Romans 11:32 tells us, “God has shut up all in disobedience that He might show mercy to all.” Thank Him for His mercy! Also, 15:9 declares “that the Gentiles should glorify God for His mercy.”

Titus 3:3 describes our fallen condition, “foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving as slaves various lusts and pleasures…” But 3:4-5 announce that “when the kindness and the love to man of our Savior God appeared, not out of works in righteousness which we did but according to His mercy He saved us.”

The source of salvation is absolutely not ourselves nor our works. The merciful God is the Source and the Accomplisher. Thus, “having been justified by His grace, we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life” (Titus 3:7). This inheritance and this hope both point ultimately to New Jerusalem. There we will eternally glorify God for His mercy.
