Grace is Not Under Our Control - A Nighttime Prayer

“I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.” – John 5:24 (NLT)

Please Pray:

Dear Triune God,

Tonight I lay down all the ways I’ve tried to bargain with you.

All the fears that whisper I must earn your acceptance. All the habits that make me believe I need to manage this relationship myself.

I confess how easily I slip back into transactions—trying to pay you back, trying to prove myself worthy, trying to hold on to some small illusion of control.

But grace isn’t under my control.

And maybe that’s why it scares me.

Maybe that’s why I resist it.

Yet tonight, I want to rest in the truth. I'm just beginning to understand that you refuse to abandon me.

You keep pursuing me—not because I deserve it, not because I’ve balanced some spiritual ledger, but because restoring me brings you joy.

Jesus, You said that those who listen and believe have already passed from death into life.

No condemnation.

No transaction.

Just a gift I keep trying to complicate.

Help me to rest so I stop trying to complicate this gift of grace.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
