Gratitude Lessons from the Polar Vortex - Divorce Minister

You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.

Genesis 50:20, NLT

This past week we experienced some of the coldest weather in a long time. The picture above is from my car and wasn’t even the lowest ACTUAL temperature we experienced!

The polar vortex was fierce.

Because of the dangerously low temperatures, school was cancelled for several days in a row. Also, Mrs. DM was blessed with cancelled work along with this weather.

I had to go into work, though…

And the interesting thing about that is how I didn’t mind having to do so. In fact, I was happy to be working through the cold.

This brings me to the verse I quoted above.

As some of you may know, I found myself suddenly without a day job–no fault of my own–in August 2018.

I was not happy with this sudden change in my employment status. It was not an expected change on my part. However, I can see how God used this sudden change to place me where I am thriving today.

Like Joseph and his brothers, I do not believe God made those brothers treat Joseph wrongly. However, God redeemed the experience.

I have lived this sort of thing over and over again throughout my life. We might experience bad treatment–like from a cheater–and God takes that awful experience redeeming it.

The bad is used for good.

I want to be clear:

Redemption does not mean what was done was right or okay!

It simply means God is bigger than any apparent setback or wrongdoing. He is able to redeem even the darkest of days.

God can take even an unexpected employment loss and turn it into a redirection to an even better job filled with fulfillment.

This is what I experienced!

No polar vortex could steal the passionate warmth of doing work where God clearly directed.

Yes "....at just the right time" - Divorce Minister

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. -Romans 5:6, NIV “At just the right time” I think we are conditioned as a species to think the “right time” is when we are able to “save ourselves.” We think that is when a partnership with God is appropriate. … Continue reading "Yes “….at just the right time”"

Cheater Still Blaming Spouse - Divorce Minister

“Sure, I cheated in the past. But I sorted that with my individual therapist. We agreed my emotional affair was really just a symptom of my marriage problems,” says Cheater. So much of the pastoral or other Christian counseling is biased towards “saving” the marriage. This bias can lead to the pastor glossing over a … Continue reading "Cheater Still Blaming Spouse"
