Hearing the word of God is key to grow in faith - Raising Zion

Hearing the word of God

You may be hearing the word of God, but are you listening? Paying attention to what is being said or written? Most children born in the faith are found participating in a lot of activities in church. How many actually listen and know how to apply God’s word in their lives?

Eli’s sons grew up in the temple but became wretched individuals. They were disobedient and rebellious, eventually received the wrath of God for their foolish ways. Samuel, on the other hand, living in the same temple learnt to hear God’s word and desire to do God’s will.

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Romans‬ ‭10:17‬ ‭

What do we need to keep in mind when hearing the word of God?

  1. Believe that He is. (Hebrews 11:6)
  2. Love the Word, not reject (Proverbs 28:9)
  3. Hear with intent like the blind man (Luke 18:36)
  4. Desire to grow from our dull spiritual state (Hebrews 5:11)
  5. Be in one accord, spirit and truth, when hearing (Acts 5:5)

We often talk about how a preacher must preach, and tend to neglect those hearing the word of God.

There will always be two types of listeners in church. One, who loves God and wants to grow in Him. Another, who has turned God into religion and fits themselves into a societal system.

What does the world need? Believers who intentionally hear the word of God to love like Jesus daily. Unless, we do not build ourselves in the faith, we cannot live overcoming lives in Christ. Faith comes by hearing the word of God; hear the word such that it takes deep root in our heart.

Let the Holy Spirit nourish us in Christ as we submit ourselves to renew our minds and hearts. Prepare to meet God; Maranatha, Praise God and Amen.

    It’s Going to Be Okay

It was one of the worst days of my life. Tragedy struck our family in the worst way and I was emotionally paralyzed. That’s when my friend, Mary, stepped in to do what I couldn’t. She made me a hotel reservation, called the necessary people, and said, “It’s going to be okay.” “It’s going to be okay” is one of the most hope-filled sentiments I can offer to others, Read more...
