How to Know God is For Us: 12 Powerful Bible Verses
God is for us! How can we be sure? Because the Bible tells us about God’s great love.
Looking up, I saw the man staring at me. The test was finally over.
I studied his expression, hoping for relief or confirmation that the test results were positive. None existed.
He looked at me while holding both my hands, adjusted the rings on my fingers, and admitted he didn’t know. He was still uncertain.
He felt he needed more time for careful consideration and research before making a diagnosis, and the test results were baffling to him.
Have you ever been in a similar situation where things didn’t make sense? Maybe the finances didn’t add up, but you couldn’t figure out why.
Maybe, like me, you’ve struggled with health problems or even relationship issues, trying to figure out what was going on or what went wrong to cause things to be this way.
For Lent this year, my fast was surrendering worry and control. This was day two of Lent.
My muscle memory wanted to take this and agonize over it, researching myself and googling every third word.
But this time, I hugged my husband and told him we would pray for wisdom for the doctor.
God has already gone before us. As I wait for answers and more tests, I’m resting in the comfort of Jesus.
He knows how I feel. He goes before us, and He already knows the outcome.
When times like this come, I’m reminded that God is for us.
We aren’t alone, and God isn’t against us. Although it may feel like it in our minds, He’s never been against us.
God Is For Us
No matter what causes your fear or angst, remember, “The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?” Psalm 118:6 NLT.
The unknown psalmist assures us that God is for us, no matter what circumstance is causing us fear or worry.
If only we believed this, right? As believers, we want to believe it. We try to believe it. But we can get so frightened about what people, things, and circumstances around us can do to us that we forget the One who is for us.
When doubts arise, remember these 12 scriptures that God is for us!
12 Biblical Reminders God Is For Us
#1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 NLT
He created everything in this world, including you. God created us in His image, Genesis 1:27, hand-knitted us and made us each unique.
#2 “He made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. He keeps every promise forever.” Psalm 146:6 NLT.
The maker of heaven and earth is for us. He orchestrated existence, knowing every detail of each creature He made. The One who made you loves you. He is faithful.
#3 “Who is the King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty; the Lord, invincible in battle.” Psalm 24:8 NLT.
King David penned this psalm during one of the many trials he faced. Thinking more about how strong and mighty God is makes the circumstances seem small.
Nothing defeats Him; He has already overcome the world.
#4 “Praise the Lord; praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms. Our God is a God who saves! The Sovereign Lord rescues us from death.” Psalm 68:19-20 NLT.
The Sovereign Lord carries us in his arms. Anyone who will carry you in their arms is for you. He saves us from death.
#5 “For the Lord is a great God, a great King above all gods.” Psalm 95:3 NLT.
Our great God is for us and King over us all. He determines our days and calms the storms of the sea. He is greater than any fear or doubt.
#6 “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1 NLT.
We can rest in His shelter and protection when we seek the Most High. We must seek Him to find the rest He gives, not what the world gives.
#7 “How kind the Lord is! How good he is! So merciful, this God of ours!” Psalm 116:5 NLT.
The Lord demonstrates kindness and mercy. He refrains from judgment when we falter in our sinful ways. He is merciful to His children.
#8 “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9”6 NLT.
This familiar prophecy from Isaiah is frequently recited at Christmastime. But this isn’t only for Christmas.
God provided a son for us who was mightier than governments and principalities.
The names of Jesus remind us that when we seek His counsel, he provides wisdom. When we seek His strength, anything is possible.
He doesn’t die, or end his love for us, His love is everlasting. He is peace; when we rest in His presence, we’ll find a peace that surpasses understanding.
#9 “He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.” Psalm 147:3 NLT.
The Lord is known as Jehovah Rapha, the one who heals us. Whether your wounds are invisible or visible, Jesus heals them.
It may not always be how you think it should be, but God’s way is always best.
#10 “Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.” James 1:17 NLT.
God doesn’t change. The rules of the world – they change.
The limitations on what our bodies can endure – they change. Our circumstances change, yet God is beside us in all the chaos and strife.
#11 “The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.” 2 Peter 3:9 NLT.
The Lord is a promise keeper. He doesn’t want us to perish, so God sent His only son to reconcile us to Him through His son Jesus.
He is patient with those who haven’t met him yet.
#12 “But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” 1 John 1:9 NLT.
God doesn’t want us to perish; He is the ultimate forgiver. If you repent of your sins, He will forgive.
How can God not be for us when He is all these things?
When we remember who God is and what He’s done, we are more likely to walk with hope when things threaten to overwhelm us.
As I left the office that day, my gaze was on the floor. I held my husband’s hand and told him, “We will trust God. He created me, and He would heal me.”
Throughout the weeks leading up to the biopsy I needed, I constantly looked these verses up and wrote them on cards to remember His goodness and strength.
I knew I couldn’t face this storm alone, but He could.
