How to Let Love Do the Right Thing in Our Lives? - Raising Zion
One of the greatest hindrances in loving God is the distraction of doing because it is right versus doing powered by the love of God.
Everyone needs to do something. Our design involves thinking, feeling, speaking, and doing. What we cannot afford to forget is our speaking and doing is driven by how we think and feel.
Seeking to do the right thing is a great idea, but when it is a rule, we often get legalistic. We want to please ourselves by doing the right thing. We begin to draw comparisons. Judging based on what we see and hear.
When God created man, there was only one command or rule. Do not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Apart from that (one) rule, he was free to do whatever he wanted. Since everything was new to him, he met God in the cool of the day to learn about life. Sin disconnected that relationship. The prevailing problem of sinful natures continues to disrupt our relationship with God.
- During Noah’s time, wickedness grew manifold on earth. Yet, Noah found grace in God’s sight because he waited on God for counsel. (Genesis 6:8-22)
- Abraham’s implicit obedience to God’s word pleased God.
- God led Moses to lead Israel, but a set of rules served as a yardstick for them to recognize their sinful ways. God desired His children to love Him so they could obey Him without the need for a set of rules. God’s word became a set of rules for Israel.
- Israel got conditioned to do what is right and eventually failed to recognize God’s love once again when Jesus was before them in flesh and blood.
Jesus became the example of doing the perfect will of God. He died on the cross and rose on the third day through the power of resurrection.
The power of resurrection is the source of strength believers have to overcome sinful natures daily. A radical love expressed by God for us requires complete surrender on our part as believers. When we believe, we will see the glory of God. This belief can only come from a sincere love for God. Love produces faith that moves mountains and powers us to endure during trials and persecution.
Let us love so we can do the right thing, not ‘do the right thing’ to prove our love. Be a loving and obedient child to the loving heavenly Father, an heir to the throne, a virgin earnestly loving His appearing. Maranatha, Praise God, and Amen.
