It’s December 31st, just few hours away from the New Year, you are set on making a countless number of resolutions again. Most of the resolution goes like this: It’s time to quite smoking and drinking, it’s time to be faithful to my spouse, it’s time to get out of drugs, it’s time to stop spending all my time in the bars and night clubs, it’s time to stop bribery and corruption, it’s time to stop selling my body as a prostitute, it’s time to stop raping and killing innocent people, it’s time to flee from sexual immorality, it’s time to escape from pornographic bondage.

The list is endless. Resolutions upon resolutions! You make unprecedented vows never to do those things again. Lo and behold! It is just one week into the New Year you did them again. In fact, you even got worse than you were before the resolution.

In your helpless and confused condition you shout within yourself, “who shall deliver me from this burden of sin.” Dear friend, there is only one way out: Jesus Christ. No amount of resolutions will stop you from sinning. The power to cleanse and forgive you is in Jesus. Jesus Christ said, “come unto me all ye that labor and heavy laden, I will give you rest.” Looking for freedom from the bondage of sin? Jesus Christ is closer than you think. “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit.”

In this coming New Year, do not take God for granted. Do not use the excuse of the fact that God is merciful to continue in your deliberate sinful disobedient to God. Remember that God is also a God of judgment. Why not use this time to go quietly go on your knees and asked the Lord Jesus Christ to come into your heart.

Jesus says in Revelation 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hears my voice, and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” This is an awesome opportunity to open the door of your heart and let the Lord of the New Year, Jesus Christ, to come into your life.

Dearly beloved, remember that as we approach the New Year, the biggest and the most important resolution you can make is to walk closer with God. Remember that you have no power of your own to make your resolutions to become a reality. Lay it all at the feet of Jesus and He will give you power to keep all your resolutions.
