ATTRIBUTES OF THE BLESSED ONES

Memorise: “Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?” (Proverbs 6:28)

Read: 1 Samuel 24:1-7

One winning attitude of the blessed ones is their honour for God and His anointed. As evil as king Saul was, when David had the opportunity to take his life, he shouted, God forbid! Any servant who destroys his master is a traitor. David honoured the anointing of God on king Saul, not his title, position or status. If David had made the mistake of killing him, he would not have gone free. Have you been oppressed, maltreated, unduly punished and persecuted by your pastor or Christian leader?

Ephesians 6:5 says inspite of that, remain obedient, submissive and dedicated. Remember you are serving Christ, not man. He will reward you. Do not become vengeful. Do not lift your hands against your erring pastor. Even when decisions are taken which you believe are meant to witch hunt you, hold firm to Christ. He will cause the situation to work in your favour. True Davids never kill their king Sauls!

They will not kill with their tongue by gossiping about them. They will also not kill by evil deeds. Davids will do nothing to undermine their leader’s authority. They are no rebels. They will rather pray for their wicked leaders. Leave God to judge them. And He will. Are you a David?

Another winning attitude of a blessed believer is the act of running away from appearances of evil. He will not smell what he will not eat. An English adage says, He that is fond of playing with the leaves will reach for the fruit at last. If you think it is safe to play with the leaves of the forbidden tree, you will soon find yourself eating the forbidden fruit.

Hence Proverbs 6:27 says, “Can a man take fire in his bossom, and his clothes not be burned?” You are not immuned to fire of lust. You will be burnt! Are you in courtship? Avoid being alone with your partner. Let there always be a third party with you. Avoid holding hands in secret. No petting, necking, kissing is allowed or else before long, you will be slain by the fire of lust you kindled.

A blessed one will deliberately avoid tempting himself or herself. If you have been a drunkard before you became born again, and beer advertisements on television still appeal to you, cut them off. Avoid beer palours and beer drinking pals. If your house help is becoming a source of temptation, send her packing.

If your boss is sexually harassing you in the office, quit that job. The blessed ones never trivialize sin. They hate it as much as God does. Are you one of the blessed children of God?

As far as sin is concerned, prevention is far cheaper than cure.
