I wore a mask for 25 years and thought it was normal.
- I’d hide my true self from others and focus on meeting religion and everyone’s expectations…at my expense.
- I felt like no one knew me. No one cared about how I felt. And that expressing emotions was a sign of weakness.
- I ran from deep relationships with the people I love and God because they couldn’t handle my secrets or struggles.
- I constantly put my needs on the back burner and showed up with a smile although I was unhappy and struggling.
- I felt like a fraud and so I’d rack up degrees, certifications, and accomplishments to prove my worth.
None of those things are normal. They are not what God intended for us… not by a long shot. My book, In Search of the Pink Flamingo, is a love letter to you and my former self. I share real-life anecdotes, insightful reflections, and practical steps to empower you to live boldly and confidently as the person God called you to be even as you serve others.
My friend, here is who God called you to be. Someone free from trauma, people-pleasing and societal expectations. Someone who has the confidence to be your true self and has deeply fulfilling relationships with God, yourself, and your family and friends. Someone who is free from the guilt and shame of trauma and secret addictions. Someone who falls in love with yourself and who you are called to be daily.
