In Other Words…

Faith

When Doug and I moved into our home almost 7 years ago, I made the decision to SIMPLIFY.  My goal was to get rid of clutter and display only things that would represent my faith and my family.  Apparently, I am a fan of words, because almost every room in my house has something to say!  Since I’m trying to stay in the Word, and am working hard to memorize verses, I bought this chalkboard to hang in my kitchen.  It makes it convenient to write the Scripture I’m working on and change it when I move on to the next:

I am a visual learner, so I have verses posted everywhere to help me in my goal of hiding God’s Word in my heart.

One of my favorite finds was this vinyl word art from a seller on Ebay.  It looks like I painted it right on my dining room wall.  The application is easy (I promise!) and can be removed just as easily with a blow dryer.  You can have any verse/saying printed you want in a variety of sizes and colors.

The dining room table changes frequently, often with the seasons, but always with words:

Over our front door is a reminder that as we enter a hectic and sometimes chaotic world, that PEACE will come if we do EVERYTHING as “something done for the Lord and not for men…” Colossians 4:10

With this over our back door, and visible from most of the house, it’s a message that is a reminder that everything we have is from the Lord.

A life-changing event in my sweet father-in-law’s life (who is STILL clinging to life), was when he was serving our country overseas.  He tells of a fox-hole moment when he was discouraged and full of fear.  In that lonely place the Holy Spirit gently reminded him to count his BLESSINGS, and when he did so, it not only changed his perspective, but renewed his spirit as well.  So often it’s our focus that needs a little re-adjusting.  My wise pastor-husband once said, “Keep your GAZE on your problems, but your FOCUS on GOD.”  God give us spiritual eyes to see what you’re doing in this great big world!

I am all about repurposing.  I move stuff around constantly to make it look new and different.  My mantel has been a canvas of creativity.  I have to confess right up front, though, that I am not very creative myself.  I can copy just about anything, though, so I am totally addicted to Pinterest.  The great thing about Pinterest is that I get all these great ideas and it’s okay to steal them! :0)

You can’t see the words on the bird print, but it’s from jonesdesigncompany.com (there’s a link on my Pinterest board: BLOGS).   It reminds us to “SEEK FIRST HIS KINGDOM and HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS and all these things will be given to you as well.”  Matthew 6:33

I always feel like I know someone better after I’ve been in their home.  Maybe by seeing the words in my home you will begin to understand more about who I am and what I’m about.  I definitely didn’t give you the “grand tour”, but I pray that in the days ahead you will come to see my heart through my words.  Thanks for stopping by!
