Matthew 3 vs 11
I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
- Water baptism by immersion is one of the rituals of the Mosaic law.
- John the Baptist referred to it but hinted that the Messiah would come not to baptize with water but with Holy Ghost and fire.
- Jesus was baptized with water but never baptized anyone by water immersion.
- Jesus baptized people with the Holy Ghost. After the resurrection, he asked his disciples to wait to be baptized with the Holy Ghost in the upper rooms and to baptize others not with water but with the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost.
- The Holy Ghost does not baptize by water but by the spirit of God.
- Water baptism remains a hallow church ritual, and it conveys the symbolism of repentance about deeds not adding any spiritual value.
- Repentance comes from confessions of the spirit and heart, not by immersion in water.
