Jesus as the Rock of Ages

Jesus as the Rock of Ages

Matthew 7:21-29

KEY VERSE: “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock” (Matthew 7:24).

Builders and engineers tell us that for a building to withstand he vagaries of weather and other natural disaster, a solid foundation must e designed appropriate for it otherwise it will not stand the test of storms. Foundations are thus of utmost importance to the stability of any building.

The Lord Jesus in His teaching emphasized two key words: “Hearing and Doing”. He likened the hearer and doer of God’s word to a man who builds his house upon a rock. He had spoken against their profession of salvation without corresponding obedience to God’s word. The folly in such, is that their profession will lead to a bitter disappointment on the day of judgment as the Lord will tell such hypocrites, “I never knew you: Depart from me, ye that work iniquity” (Matt. 7:23).

To drive home His message, Jesus concluded with a pictorial illustration of two men that built their houses – one on the sand and the other upon the rock. Expectedly, the man that built upon the sand lost his house to the storm, wind and flood because it lacked a solid foundation. He was considered foolish. The wise man on the other hand built his house on the rock. Neither storm, nor wind nor flood could pull down this house because “it was founded upon a rock”. (Malt 7:25).

If a man builds on hypocritical works, false religious practices of men, human ideology, occultism and indeed idolatry, such weak foundations will never stand the test of time. If a man does not contend with any doctrine of the Bible, but obeys, he is building upon a rock. Such sure and solid foundation will abide, not only on the evil day of temptation and trials but also on the final day of God’s sure judgment.

Jesus, the Word, (John 1:1) is the Rock and Foundation of our Christian faith. To build on any other prophets, deity, religion, idea or god is building upon the sand and great shall be the fall of whosoever does this. Upon whom are you building?

Blessed are your eyes for reading this message. Please, don’t let this message die: read it again and pass it to others.

Sehnsucht in the Blue Ridge Mountains — Nicole O'Meara

Sehnsucht is hard to put into words, as can be seen in my painfully limited ability to describe what I felt at a vista in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Some call it joy. Some called it wistful longing for something you can’t explain. It has been called melancholy and nostalgia. It is all of that, and mo
