New Jerusalem, Habitation of the God of Peace (2)

New Jerusalem, a city of peace, is the dwelling place of the God of peace. God is perfecting us to be New Jerusalemthe constituents of this city.

The Old Testament was a precursor to the actual perfecting which began when Jesus came. The father of John the Baptist prophesied that Jesus comes “to guide our feet into the way of peace” (Luke 1:79).

After healing people, Jesus said to some of them “go in peace” (e.g. Luke 7:50). And He said to His disciples, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you” (John 14:27).

The Lord’s peace is absolutely different from peace in the world. His peace is eternal and pure, matching New Jerusalem. He has given this peace to us to experience now and much more in the coming age and eternity.

In resurrection He again declared to the disciples, “Peace be to you” (John 20:19, 21, 26). This peace has now come to us in the gospel. Romans 5:1 tells us that, “having been justified out of faith, we have peace toward God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

May the Lord grant us all to experience His peace now as part of our foretaste of New Jerusalem.
