New Jerusalem, Habitation of the God of Peace (3)

Jesus is God incarnated. He came for to guide us into peace (Luke 1:79) and to proclaim the gospel of peace (Acts 10:36). Ephesians 2:14 proclaims “He Himself is our peace.” All His living and doing point toward New Jerusalem, the city of peace.

Ephesians continues to tell us that Jesus Christ, in His death, “has made both [Jews and non-Jews] one and has broken down the middle wall of partition, the enmity, abolishing in His flesh the law of the commandments in ordinances, that He might create the two in Himself into one new man, so making peace.”

New JerusalemEphesians 2:16 tells us further that in His death Christ reconciled us all “in one Body” to God. Verse 17 goes on to His resurrection. “And coming, He announced peace as the gospel to you who were far off, and peace to those who were near.”

When our living is in Adam, differences in culture and ideas cause enmity. But, when we accept what Christ has done in His death and resurrection, and when our living is one with Christ within us, we have peace with one another.

Sadly, much of our living today is still in culture with its contentions. We need to grow into Christ in everything to experience Him fully and to move toward the ultimate peace of New Jerusalem.
