New Jerusalem is Perfectly Complete

The angel showing New Jerusalem to John “measured the city with the reed to a length of twelve thousand stadia; the length and the breadth and the height of it are equal” (Rev. 21:16).

New JerusalemThe length, breadth, and height of the New Jerusalem are all twelve thousand stadia. Twelve thousand is one thousand times twelve. Since twelve signifies absolute and eternal completion in God’s eternal administration, twelve thousand signifies a thousand times this.*

In the Bible seven is a number indicating fullness in time, such as seven days in a week, seven deacons in Acts 6, and seven golden lampstands in Revelation 1.

Twelve is a number signifying eternal completion. Since New Jerusalem is eternal and perfect, there are many twelves associated with it but no sevens. New Jerusalem is eternal and perfect to match God who is eternal and perfect.
