New Jerusalem Seen in Ephesians, 15
Based on His death, resurrection, and ascension, Jesus Christ gave gifts to each of His believers (4:7) and gave gifted persons for building His Body (4:11).
The function of the gifted persons is “for the perfecting of the saints unto the work of the ministry, unto the building up of the Body of Christ” (4:12). The gifted persons do not directly by themselves build the Body. They are given by the Lord to perfect all the members of the Body to participate in the building process.
Of course, the building process is for this age. New Jerusalem “coming down out of heaven from God” is already prepared, fully built. And by then all the members of the Body will have been perfected and become full grown. Thus this part of Ephesians 4 is about now, a time of preparation, and it is for then, a time of fullness.
Ephesians 4:15-16 gives some description of the goal of the building process and this applies to New Jerusalem. We will each, and all, 1) be fully grown into the Head, Christ; 2) be completely joined and knit together; 3) have proper operation; 4) and be built together in love.
New Jerusalem will be fully built in life, in the growth of the life which is Jesus Christ in every member. And this is in love, an eternal love filling New Jeursalem.
