New Song

Psalms 40

He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire;
He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in Him.

Psalms 40:2-3

What does it mean for you to have the chance to sing a new song? As a teenager, I spent many hours writing songs, singing them, and playing the guitar. Sometimes my neighbours would lean from their balcony and try to watch me sing. The new songs were coming all the time! 

However, for God to give a new song after times of difficulty, hardship and after a season of being stuck in the mud, that must allow the composition to be a touching, impacting and powerful song.

When God brings healing into our life, He also brings a new song, which David felt in Psalms 40. David had a fresh understanding of who God was^[1] and, all the more, the reason to worship God.

When we might take many turns and roads in life, there are beautiful seasons and tough seasons, yet in all those times, have we trusted in God? Have we stopped to seek His Kingdom first? Has Jesus been close to you, even when you have felt you were forgotten? What happens after we’ve taken all the steps further in life and have had godly counsel? What happens when our faith has finally been strengthened? Could we have come to understand Jesus personally in a fresh way? Could that be when we can sing a new song of worship to Jesus?

Prayer:

Dear Jesus,

You are the strength of my life. You are the light to my path, and please guide me today and forever. Keep showing Yourself to me. I will sing You a new song.
