Renewing unto New Jerusalem (2)

Our first step toward the fullness of New Jerusalem is a new birth, our regeneration, the enlivening of our human spirit. Our second step is the renewing of our soul by the Spirit who is one with our spirit (1 Cor. 6:17).New Jerusalem

The Spirit with our spirit spreads into our soul to renew it. This renewing saves us from wandering thoughts, negative emotions, disagreements, and many other manifestations of our old, fallen humanity. Titus 3:5 tells us about our Savior God that “according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Spirit.”

This spiritual washing removes our fallen, natural element and the renewing constitutes us with the humanity of Jesus. The Lord seeks our willingness to let the Spirit operate in us, the Spirit “whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior” (Titus 3:6).

To be born again is quick; it only needs our repenting, turning to the Lord, and our believing, accepting Him as our Savior and Life. In contrast, the Spirit’s renewing in us is a process which lasts our entire Christian life. Second Corinthians 4:16 says, “our inner man is being renewed day by day.”

Every day we can gain more of His renewing in our soul until that day when our body is redeemed. Daily we go onward to New Jerusalem.
