ENEMY’S BREAD?

Memorise: “But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints” ( Ephesians 5:3 )

Read: Job 31:9-12

Pastor E. Adeboye

One sin the flesh derives maximum pleasure from is fornication. To the extent it is pleasurable to the flesh, to that extent it is devastating to the spirit. Usually, sex based sins are momentary. Sometimes, they do not go beyond five or ten minutes, but the effects not only last a life time, but throughout eternity. Hence, Ephesians 5:3 says it should not be once named among believers.

Sexual immorality has several negative effects on the fornicator or adulterer. It reduces a man who worths more than the whole world into a piece of bread. Proverbs 6:26 says, “For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life“. Each time you are tempted into immorality, your value is the target. If you fall victim to sexual sins, you lose your worth.

Also, fornication turns you into bread. What do you do when given bread? You eat it of course. That means when you engage in illicit sex- premarital or extra -marital, or any form of sexual perversion such as homosexuality, lesbianism or bestiality, you become bread (food) for your enemies.

In Numbers 14:9 , after the 12 spies returned from spying the land of Canaan, Caleb and Joshua observed that the inhabitants of the land were fornicators, hence they told the Israeli congregation not to fear not because they had become bread to them. That means fornication has completely eroded their defence mechanism, and so their size, height or previous reputation meant nothing.

Any believer who is always struck by enemies’ fire should examine himself or herself. It is possible fornication has eroded his defence mechanism and turned the fellow into food for his enemies. The danger of this effect of fornication is that the food becomes an attraction – a type of magnet, attracting the eaters (enemies) to their victim.

Fornicators have nowhere to hide from enemies’ bombardment. Satan knows your worth. Some believers and men of God started well. They had a great name and were dreaded by hell. But today, sexual sins have reduced them to nothing. God is no more with them yet, they still have their big names and titles.

Before Satan, they are worth nothing. One reason Satan may have spared them is because they are now working for him. Flee fornication!
