But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” (Exodus 14:13-14 NLT)
In a life of living by faith, when pressure comes, and it constantly does, it is always necessary to stay calm.
While working as a missionary with Youth With A Mission, a leader used to say, “Living by faith is being in the center of a miracle, but always on the edge of disaster.” Such is the circumstance in which Moses found himself by the Red Sea. It is the same situation in which we will find ourselves if we walk by faith in Moses’s footsteps.
When we find ourselves between the rock and the hard place, the emotion of fear starts to arise in our hearts. Some say that fear is the opposite of faith, but is it? Unbelief is the opposite of faith, which leads to fear. Fear starts to grip our lives when we doubt God’s faithfulness.
So, what do we do when we experience a lot of fear about something that God has told us to do? You go back to the source, God. We ask the Lord when and how He told you to do what you are trying to do. If you have not documented the word from God, maybe it is not important enough to do. But if you know that God has spoken to you, then you stand on the faithfulness and character of God. Hearing from God is so essential in times of doubt. Moses was on a first-name basis with God, but this is not just for the high and mighty. If Jesus Christ died on the Cross to give us a pathway to heaven and reestablish a relationship with him, then it makes perfect sense that God would provide us with a way of communicating with him and he with us. Prayer is a two-way street.
Are you between a rock and a hard place with God? Stay calm and listen to what the Lord is trying to say to you. It may be a lot like what he told Moses. “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today” (Exodus 14:13 NLT).
