Sunday Stillness – Deuteronomy 33:25

Last Sunday the Sunday School in Arizona asked me to do the Storyteller’s part for the children’s service. I had done this a couple of times last spring. I received the story and realized it was a Proverb – not a real story.

Of course, Satan tried to have a field day with me. He told me, “You can’t do this.” I felt confused. Then I said to myself, “No way, Satan, you are NOT getting to me. I have Jesus to give me strength, words and confidence.”

In my weakness – I kept saying – He is strong. And He was. Even though I didn’t feel adequate at all, I kept trusting Jesus to pull me through. And He did in a marvellous way. I had a great time. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

So this pair of sandals is my vision for this strength. There are two very different versions for this passage. In the New Kings James Version it is sandals.

Your sandals shall be iron and bronze;
As your days, so shall your strength be (Deuteronomy 33:25, NKJV).

But check out what the NIV says:

The bolts of your gates will be iron and bronze,
and your strength will equal your days.

And The Message:

Safe behind iron-clad doors and gates,
your strength like iron as long as you live.

I decided it didn’t matter what the vision – the strength is the same. I like the idea that:

God puts iron and bronze shoes on my feet
to give me strength against the Enemy. (Tweetable)

The whole point is – God gave me strength. I allowed Him to be the strength in my weakness. And I enjoyed the journey.

Today is Sunday Stillness – be still before Him.

Stop and feel His touch.
