Teach Me the Path to Life | HealthWealthVictory

Do you sometimes get confused about the path you are to take in life? I do. That’s why I always pray for God to teach me the path to life. You can do it too.

Responsorial Psalm, Psalms 16:1-2, 5, 7-8, 9-10, 11

1 [In a quiet voice Of David] Protect me, O God, in you is my refuge.

2 To Yahweh I say, ‘You are my Lord, my happiness is in none5 My birthright, my cup is Yahweh; you, you alone, hold my lot secure.

7 I bless Yahweh who is my counsellor, even at night my heart instructs me.

8 I keep Yahweh before me always, for with him at my right hand, nothing can shake me.

9 So my heart rejoices, my soul delights, my body too will rest secure,

10 for you will not abandon me to Sheol, you cannot allow your faithful servant to see the abyss.

11 You will teach me the path of life, unbounded joy in your presence, at your right hand delight for ever.

Decisions Decisions

There are times when I get pulled in so many directions with so many things I want to do that I get confused and burdened in my mind.

Should I do this? How about that? I want to do this but there’s this? What is the right thing to do? Is that what God wants me to do?

Sometimes also I get so impatient and I want things to happen all at once.

In these times, I often wish that God will just talk to me directly in a voice I can clearly hear and tell me to do this, not that.

It’s so much easier that way.

But I’ve learned God doesn’t do it that way.

I need to seek Him in prayer, discipline myself to keep silent before Him and tame my restless, impatient spirit.

Then I surrender to Him this concern that is weighing me down.

And only then can I hear His still small voice.

Sometimes there and then when I sat before Him.

At other times, t’s often a clear nudge in my spirit when I hear something as I go about my day: people I talk to, video lessons I watch, songs I listen to, books I read.

It’s just a matter of being open and expectant that God hears my prayer and He will teach me the path to life.

The path to life

This, or versions of it, has been my constant prayer ever since I learned to consult the Lord in everything.

11 You will teach me the path of life, unbounded joy in your presence, at your right hand delight for ever. Psalm 16

How would I know I’m on God’s path and not just my own?

These 2 things will help you know and determine God’s path of life:

  • Unbounded joy in God’s presence
  • Delights at His right hand

There will be none of the agitations you may have felt before.

There will be no striving, no trying hard to open up doors and opportunities.

You will feel a peace, a certainty, and a joy in Your spirit – the kind that only God’s presence can bring.

You will see things happening without so much of your doing. You will see doors otherwise kept shut, opportunities coming your way you have not known before, blessings that give you delight.

There are times too that things take a while to happen: no clear answer, no nudge in my spirit.

This is the time when I need to confess like David in today’s Psalm:

8 I keep Yahweh before me always, for with him at my right hand, nothing can shake me.

9 So my heart rejoices, my soul delights, my body too will rest secure,10 for you will not abandon me to Sheol, you cannot allow your faithful servant to see the abyss.

Psalm 16

This is when I hold on to faith: being sure of the things I hope for, being certain of things I cannot see  (Hebrews 11:1).

Knowing that God will never abandon me to “Sheol” – darkness, confusion, fear, anxiety, and uncertainty.

So then I keep myself in line: my heart rejoicing, my soul delighting, and my body resting in the love and care of God.

Now Your turn

Confused on the path you should take, decisions you need to make?

Pray to God. Listen to Him. Surrender to Him.

Protect me, O God, in you is my refuge.2 To Yahweh I say, ‘You are my Lord, my happiness is in none5 My birthright, my cup is Yahweh; you, you alone, hold my lot secure.7 I bless Yahweh who is my counsellor, even at night my heart instructs me. Psalm 16

God will teach you the path to life, fullness of joy in His presence, the delights at His right hand forever.

Here’s from another version:

You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalms 16:11 NKJV

And another one for good measure.

Now you’ve got my feet on the life path, all radiant from the shining of your face. Ever since you took my hand, I’m on the right way. Psalm 16:11 MSG

He holds your lot secure, holds your hand along the way. You will never be put to shame nor left behind.
