Thank You For Setting Me Free

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” — Romans 8:28 (NKJV)

There are moments in life that leave a lasting imprint on our souls—experiences that seem insignificant to others but hold deep meaning for us. I remember one such moment vividly. After preaching one day, I sat quietly in the passenger seat, tears streaming down my face. I rolled down the window, letting the breeze wash over me, and closed my eyes.

Suddenly, I had a vision of a little girl running freely through a sunflower field, her smile radiant, her laughter light, her spirit unburdened. She was carefree and full of joy. Then she paused, turned around and to my surprise, it was me as my younger self.

She looked straight into my eyes and whispered, “Thank you for setting me free.” She smiled, turned back around, and ran off into the sunset. I never saw her again, but the message was clear.

That moment was more than just a vision. It was a divine reminder: God had brought me out. Out of pain, out of fear, out of cycles that once kept me bound. What once felt like a hopeless season—confusing, dark, and suffocating—had become the soil for my breakthrough. I didn’t see it then, but God was working, even in the silence, in the tears, and even in the waiting.

Romans 8:28 reminds us that all things, not just the good, but the hard, the painful, the confusing, are working together for our good when we love Him and walk in His purpose. He doesn’t waste pain. Nor does He discard your broken pieces. Instead, He takes every shattered moment and shapes it into something purposeful.

Let that be the thing that fuels you to move forward.

Sometimes the very thing that tried to break you in one season will become your testimony in the next. Your testimony will be the very thing that builds someone else. Your story becomes your strength and the chains that once held you bound become the keys that unlock the door to hope.

So, if you’re in a place that feels like a dead end—take heart. What feels like the end is often the beginning of something new. God is writing a bigger story. And one day, like me, you’ll look back at the younger version of yourself, smile, and say, “We made it.”

Let the freedom you’ve found be an encouragement and a reminder of just how far you’ve come. God is not finished with you yet.

Questions for Reflection:

1. Can you recall a moment when God brought you out of something you thought would break you?

2. What is one area in your life where you need to trust that God is still working behind the scenes?

3. How can your story of freedom encourage someone else today?
